VLC 0.9.2

The VLC Player is my player of choice.

CONS
However, I've noticed two things in the latest version that's annoying:
1) When you switch to full screen mode, the little panel with the pause/play/fforward control buttons automatically appears on the screen every 30 odd seconds. It's distracting while watching a DVD movie. In previous versions if you wanted to use the control panel, then you'd would move the mouse to the bottom of the screen to let this panel appear, which is the preferred way.

You can disable the panel altogether in Preferences, and restart the player for it to take effect, but then you have no panel at all which isn't ideal either.

2) If you have a dual screen setup and play a vid in full screen mode on screen 1, the popup control panel appears on screen 2 which is a further annoyance since you're "working" on screen 2.

PRO'S
Everything else. :)
I also like the fact that you can stream Youtube URLs directly to VLC player, it resizes to the original video size which makes it clearer.

So you want the panel and you don't want it. Can't have it both ways man :p Best to learn the shortcut keys if you're running in fullscreen mode. Else you could exit the fullscreen and then you will have all the controls again.

I'm not liking the new version as I find it to be very buggy. For example when closing VLC it sometimes freezes, and now I can't change the volume knob Oo weird.

I want the panel when > I < feel like using it, not when VLC decides I should see it. :)
Yeah, I just don't use the full screen now, not the end of the world.

Well I'm not aware of any other media player that lets you have the controls while in fullscreen mode, so maybe you're asking a little too much? How would this be possible if you don't want to see it, but only want to see it when you want?
I always use fullscreen. If I want to increase the volume, I just ctrl + up and similarly if I want to decrease it, it's ctrl + down. The only other shortcut keys I use are to rewind and fast forward a bit and they are very easy as well. I don't think I ever use the VLC interface, come to think of it.

The KMPlayer allows you to see the controls in fullscreen when you move the cursor to the bottom of the screen (so to does MPC & GomPlayer if I recall correctly). This new VLC shows the controls whenever you move the mouse, which was very annoying.

Does anyone have a problem with VLC 0.8.6c where often when deleting playlist items the program crashes?

how do i get rid of the pop-up box every few seconds in fullscreen mode, its pops even when mouse is still??? please help....

Go to the settings or preferences, I can't remember what it's called but it's on the first page of the settings.

Even Windows Media Player will "push up" the control panel when you hover the mouse near the bottom in fullscreen mod.

I'm also using KMPlayer , and the panel will appear if i move mouse to the bottom...why change this simple concept?

That said, i know WMP have a nasty habit to let the control panel appear if something happens in the background..dunno if VLC may be suffering from that?

EDIT: I scanned the VLC forums, and i does sound like a bug, some people's fullscreen controls pop up like every 3 seconds even. Most probably some background process [i.e. virus scanner etc] triggers the control, exactly like my WMP does when the mouse moves.

Had a bit of a bugger up when I tried to play a rented DVD with the latest VLC today. I configured the preferences as best I thought, kept testing and nothing worked. I finally opened preferences again and reset VLC to defaults and voila, it played the DVD perfectly.

Only great thing with this release, it might have been the same in the previous, but didn't see it. There is a default Volume slider in the Audio preferences Tab that I set to 400%, which is the maximum and sound is great on my little laptop :p

;)
