Good Day Lads

Ok so im trying to create a test environment for a VPN using VMware.

Im basically trying to get the VM to connect to my router. The option iv found closest to achieving this is going to Vmware option and selecting replicate physical adapter. Doing this i can see a assigned address in my routers address pool for my VM. i can ping my VM from the host and also ping the router and the host from the VM.
The only thing i dont have is internet access on the VM.

What is the proper way of doing this.Any replies will be greatly appreciate.

What happens if you do a traceroute from the VM to a internet IP lets say 8.8.8.8
Does it bomb out at the router, or hop out to the internet?

Can you please be more clear?

"VM to connect to my router" = set VM's guest IP details to your IP range and gateway. Your VM will thus have internet access.

Windows: Network Adapters > Properties > TCP IPv4
Linux: /etc/network/interfaces

If that's not what you mean, then you have to be more clear. Your initial request is very confusing...

apologies for the confusing post.

my question is how do i config my virtual machine to be visible on my physical network.
Id like my router to assign my VM NIC an address and for my VM to use 192.168.1.254 as the default gateway.

As i said on my first post,Going to VMware player option and selecting replicate physical connection state results in the VM being assigned an address from my routers pool being 192.168.1.103 and the default gateway is 192.168.1.254 BUT i do not have internet connection the VM.

You need to select the bridged networking option.
The gues OS will then pick up an IP from your router.

This sounds more like a DNS issue to be honest.

Can you ping 8.8.8.8?

If you get a reply then the VM is online (8.8.8.8 is Google's public DNS server). If you did get a reply then you'll most likely need to manually set DNS entries in your VM.
