VNC or Remote Desktop?

If you don't have a fixed IP, teamviewer is really the easiest solution as it bypasses firewalls. I've set it up via a phone call with some really technology challenged people and it works every time.

I have vista home basic, and apparently it cant do remote desktopping. All i wnat to do is remote deskopt my laptop from my desktop. SHould i use VPN or teamviewer. Obviously bandwidth is not a problem since it is over lan cable. WHat is my best option?

VNC will work just fine and once it's set-up it doesn't give trouble.

ya I put it (tightVNC) on so long and it was very easy to get working, however, it feels sluggish. Sure it shouldnt be since i only working over a lan cable? Are there settings I can edit that would make it faster? it definitely does not feel as responsive on RMD. It sucks that vista home basic does not have it. Is there an install i can get from MS to get it working?

Teamviewer. Seriously it's fantastic...

I don't think TeamViewer will work on a closed LAN, unless the LAN has internet access. Instances of TeamViewer needs to connect to the TeamViewer central servers. Without this connection, it won't work. Well at least not for the free version. TeamViewer also requires both ends to be interactive in order to establish a connection. One side has to initiate, and the other side has to accept.
