My Vodacom 3G connection disconnects about every 60 seconds. I reconnect and then it disconnects again. This has been happening since Tuesday evening at about 18:00. I uninstalled the modem and reinstalled it again. Now it stays connected for longer periods, but after a few minutes I lose connection to the internet for eg pages don't load. I now must disconnect and reconnect and then I can work on the internet. I have been using vodacom 3G and this Hauwei modem now for 4 years and this is the 1st time it happened.

I live in the Kokstad, KZN area. Can it be the network or is it a software problem?

I would appreciate any help with this frustrating situation.

The problems could be related to the interaction between the modem and the network. The network might have changed its configuration and the new settings might have caused problems with the specific firmware of the modem. My recommendation, try another firmware version, and checks if it does the same. If possible, try another 3G device (assuming the Huawei modem is disconnecting on 3G, and not 2/2.5G) to check if it has similar results, and/or try another firmware version. If you find any other device showing similar problems, and other firmware versions (older and newer), inform Vodacom.

Are you forcing the connection on "3G only"? I've had some problems in the past doing this, especially when there's not enough signal. But if it's every 60 seconds exactly, I'm not sure if this is the cause.

I think its network related, it happens to me to from time to time.

Which area are you in PTA ?i know there has been issues`s in the area

Thank you very much. Firstly I want to try somebody else's modem in my laptop with my sim card in it. If the problem still persists after that, i'll know its not a modem problem and will contact you. I'm not in Pta. I'm in the Kokstad area. In KZN.

You should also be trying your modem in another machine. It could also be your hardware/os.

Thanx for all the advice. I decided to try one more thing. I did a system restore and my problem is solved! everything works perfect and my connection is even faster than before! Or it can be my imagination. Just very relieved its not my modem or something serious. But what caused it i'll never know I guess.

What is a "system restore" if I want to try it too?

Just make sure that you did not circumvent the underlying cause. A customer had the same problem last week, connection cut out constantly. First thing I did was a Malwarebytes scan and it picked up several nasties, then installed Kaspersky which found some other stuff. After a modem firmware upgrade there are no more problems. System restore might have reversed the changes that malware did to the registry etc. I suggest you run a quick scan just to make sure ;)

Hehe, no, but the customer insisted to drive all the way from Witbank to Krugersdorp after she's been to a Vodashop and they apparently couldn't help her. There are so many factors influencing the stability of a PC, one can't expect the Vodashops to provide a complete maintenance service :D
