Vodacom 43Mbps test

Can a device reach its maximum. For example i am using a 3.6 modem and the network thruoghput at that time is 15.0. Can i therefore get a full speed of the modem and if not what's the cause. Or does the specified speed of device also "theorerical"?

Well see my tests above.

With a K4505-Z modem, which is capable of 21.5mbps, but look at the speeds I get.

With my K4606 modem, which is capable of 42.2mbps, I get much higher overall speeds.

Although the K4605 is a dual carrier modem (MIMO), so I'm presuming this is the reason for the higher speeds.

The K4605 on VC is Dual-Carrier, i.e. it uses two concurrent bands to double up on 21.6 to 43.2.

MIMO is another method to get higher speeds but it is not yet implemented on the network. Might be supported by the K6405, not sure.

If you use both DC and MIMO you'll get even higher speeds, for example 86.4Mb/s. Early next year, I hope. ;)

To answer the earlier question about theoretical maximum speed on a lower speed modem; you could potentially get very close to it but radio conditions must still be very good for this to happen.

The 'faster' modems tend to give better throughput because they employ the fancier codec schemes.

with vc prices, what is the point of this thread, really. c'mon....

address the real issues.
