Vodacom ADSL expected soon

Arnt Neotel, MTN and Vodacom working together to install a new cable infrastructure?

ja right. i'll wait and see cause with telkom still in the picture......

Vodacom would not be stupid enough to price itself out of the market, but then again, how do you justify selling bandwidth at one price for ADSL, and then on another price for mobile internet. Maybe they are planning a revolution in mobile internet pricing - then again maybe I'll see a unicorn on the train tonight.

lol I'm guessing you have a better chance with the unicorn.

If this was any other country, then maybe Vodacom with it's expert legal team and tremendous clout would fight Telkom to unbundle the local loop.

But no, this is South Africa, where everything takes just a tad longer

As per usual, spot on.

TW's idea of using the towers as central locations for DSLAM's is innovative, but getting ROW to trench for copper (or fiber) is going to be difficult, time consuming and expensive. Much better to unbundle the LL already in place. Makes more sense for fiber though.

As I thought and Gary hinted at .... a LINE is required for ADSL.

The REAL solution and revolution will be LLU.

How about Tripple play?

Telephone, Internet, DSTV all in one packages?

MWeb are closest to making that happen (partners of Dstv) - or a nice MWeb + Telkom Deal to make all that happen

um, did you read the whole thread? Vodacom would simply be piggy backing off Telkom's network in much the same way that Internet Solutions and Mweb are currently doing.

Don't get your celebration gear on yet.

Yes, but customers would be signing up with Vodacom, not Telkom. That is what matters.

Let me ask you this question.....have you heard anything about Telkom testing a 100Mbps ADSL network? Me neither.

You referring to Vodacom and LTE?

Yes, so are Telkom.

That's not ADSL.

FTTH?

That's vDSL, not ADSL.

I wonder which operator, Telkom or Vodacom, will be the first to offer triple play services.

One bill for all your digital services!
Would be awesome

Still cannot understand, why everyone is so happy about it?
Vodacom will not make their own residential fixed line services.
If they decide to play Afrihost/Mweb, I'll welcome them in further reducing of prices.

Thanks Vodacom. hope to connect with you soon! :P

ps. best news in a while.

Sadly they probably won`t, but heck own can dream, although thats all we mostly do

They could spark a price war if they bypass Telkom's IPC and undercut Telkom and IS/MWeb.

Yes they will need to use Telkom's last mile for residential services, but you can be sure that they will try and self-provide to their business customers (where possible and feasible).
