Vodacom ADSL expected soon

How about buying up Telkom's infrastructure while you are at it and we can get rid of the dinosaur all together!

After last week's disappointments with Telkom, I find myself happy to hear this news. I don't like the fact that no delivery schedule is being made public, although that's somewhat understandable, but other than that, I also find myself being quite cynical about their possible products while at the same time hoping that they won't even bother with anything less than 1MB at affordable prices.

totally agree!

Vodacom has the ability to remove totally the telkom last mile by providing fixed adsl via
Their 3G/ HSDPA towers.
I am sure if they do this they can be very competitive and offer complete
Support

They could offer uncapped -

Let the Games Begin - Kenako - the waiting is over - it is time for
South Africa to have reliable broadband from a company who can deliver
And provide superb service.

Uncapped ADSL via the 3G towers while normal wireless users are still capped:wtf:

It will use the towers to connect to their network and once on there it uses
A seperate network dedicated to Dsl clients.
Just a way to get rid of telkom last mile.

That I got. I should have highlighted the uncapped part.
Even if it was a last point before connecting to DSL, the uncapped users will create too much congestion for others on the 3g towers. Then Vodacom may have to create a fair use policy, then people complain thats not really uncapped highspeed broadband, blah, blah, blah....

But it is still early days with no info, so who knows what they got in plan

What do Vodacom want to launch?
1) Launch their own last mile ADSL? (unlikely)
2) Launch Telkom + Vodacom ADSL data?

If 1, good job!
If 2, another ADSL data provider over Telkom's last mile, same story all over again. Telkom is winner again. :sigh:
[/ends whine tune]

Wonder if they will launch R7/GB unshaped? :)

Your considerations make me more excited.

Your options plus one more:

3) Using future LTE for the last mile

Now that could hurt Telkom badly :)
