Vodacom don't care if their prices are far more expensive. They just care that they keep getting headlines out implying their prices are reasonable, creating a false public perception of value. Vodacom's marketing team understands this.

The 'informed', the 10%, are the type of people who find out the truth anyway. Joe Public doesn't bother to check prices, he just walks into a retail store while in the mall one day of a brand that he recognizes with a vague internally positive perception, and that he can associate as being a brand he identifies with.

But, you can fool some of the people some of the time etc. --- eventually, slowly, markets come round. Vodacom's strategy is to move as slowly as the slow market allows, while fooling them and tricking them and deceiving them every step of the way.

This is very true, but MyBB understands this too, and that is why they should not aid Vodacom in this deception, instead the headline should have read " Vodacom ADSL pricing - STILL not competitive "

I need some help with my maths

CellC 3G (5GB/m) --> R1999 / 12months = R166 per month

Vodacom ADSL (5GB/m) + Telkom line --> R169 + R133 = R302 per month

Just doesn't seem right?


If they don't want to have ADSL offerings no one is forcing them, they should stick to wireless!

No way!

Okay way too much Vodacom talk going on this site. It almost seems like MyBB is punting Vodacom by talking about Vodacom in any way so as not to talk about that CellC bunch. The other way to skin this cat is "OH my vodacom have really listened ", and so they look good. They don't look good, not even close.

Very true, I agree, though I suspect the motivation might also be to 'stimulate lively discussion'. And probably they can't piss off their sponsors too much.
 
Vodacom's obviously adopted the 'incrementally-decreasing-by-slight-enough-margins-to-not-really-affect-bottom-line-but-still-enough-to-fool-customers-into-thinking-they're-cheaper-while-they're-actually-not' pricing model here.

Seriously & honestly Vodacom - you've created the impression of a money-hungry corporation when you steadfastly refused to lower your 3G data prices at the time when everyone knew wholesale prices have dropped. I know because I was one of the petitioners on MyBB. Let me tell you that alone will take a lot of goodwill to overcome. And by a lot I mean I personally will not make use of your ADSL services unless it is significantly cheaper than the rest, even at R1 to R2 cheaper per gig I'm still gonna make use of your competition. It's called sticking it to the big man, or in less aggro terms, making my little voice heard. You lost my 3G business a couple of months ago because of the price issue, and although ~R1000/month isn't that much to you, it is to me. You see, marketing is no longer a one-way action, the internet changed all that and letting others know I'm voting with my wallet is the only way I have to show my dissatisfaction with companies like yours.

As I see it you're acting as a reseller of ADSL bandwidth, it's not as if you can justify your expensive prices because you had to build the infrastructure like you had to with your 3G towers. So, in that regard .. your adjusted pricing is still way behind the curve. I cannot think of one single reason (except greed) why you have to ask so much.

So, please, take your condescending offer and go back to the drawing board. Again.

It does seem like it, but I think Vodacom probably just issues a hundredfold more press releases. Dump a new press release every other day and you're going to get more coverage. Cell C should be issuing more press releases. I mean heck, you go to Cell C's website and one of the major news banner across the top is still 'Cell C launches in Polokwane'. WTF? They've launched in many other more major cities recently and they're coming close to launching in Gauteng, and yet that's one of the headline picks for the front page!? If I was Joe Public I'd just think nothing interesting was happening there. And I say this as a user and big fan of Cell C's new broadband products. In business you have to be 'loud', you have to keep making press releases, even if there is little new interesting real news (like Vodacom), it's all about making noise and making it look like lots of interesting things are happening. In Cell C's case, unlike Vodacom, interesting things really are happening. Cell C has to take some responsibility too for how they are covered in the media, they should be issuing more press releases of their own. I mean if you watch TV as well, I swear there is a Vodacom advert every two minutes.
 
Forget Data for now, the new WAR is Line Rentals!!

Yay data prices come down again blah blah, its cool but renting a ADSL (I say again 'renting') line for R350 upwards (512 line) a month is absolutely CRAZY!! Telkom need to be castrated....lets focus some energy on dealing with the line rental prices!!! :twisted:
 
MyBB have really been over-doing it with the bells and whistles with their Vodacom Headlines. Disappointing... ABSOLUTELY NO VALUE

They are by far the cheapest for 10GB prepaid... Vodacom's price is actually not that bad... it would be listed at no.11 on the Hellkom site list... better than Afrihost, WebAfrica, etc.

No ... how do you get that? I'm with WebAfrica - 10GB cap on a 4mb line at R599.

Put Vodacom 10GB on the same package and you get what? R772. How is that in any way better.

Having said that - I do recognize that WA's data prices are a bit on the ridiculous side. But their bundled options are a lot better than Vodacom is ever going to work out to.
