Vodacom Bill Shock

Vodacom Is literally putting me and my 2 year old daughter on the streets. They surprised me with a R50 000 data bill and are not willing to discount even a little bit. Not once did I receive an sms saying my bill was that high. If I have to pay this bill we will not be able to afford o put food on the able for the next 6 months let alone pay the rent. we will quite literally have to go live under a bridge. Does anyone know what I can do? I am desperate.

what is the bill for? i.e can you break down the costing? how many mb/gb at what rate was charged? and how did you accumulate this?

That sort of bill should be illegal.
No company can justify , in any sense, charging anyone that in 2019.

You're forgetting that the OP must have been consuming a large amount of data out of bundle... Still Vodacons OOB rates should be illegal.

One day if I leave the country I'll get a Vodacom sim and run up a R1mill data bill in a day. Then they can try to track me down.

If you dont mind having credit affected then simply refuse to pay Vodacom if they won't meet you halfway in terms of repayment.

Allowing OOB is akin to unsecured microlending where you were clearly not financially able to afford such a data loan yet Vodacom willy nilly approved you automatically. This can happen to someone on a R100 a month contract just as much as someone who is rich on a R2000 a month contract yet the R100 person have NO means or reasonable credit history that they should ever have been put in such a position.

I don't understand how this was ever allowed , it should be in direct contravention with the credit act to give a black card on spending approval to every person and expecting them to pay at end of month no matter the limit.

Just a few good leveraged trades and you can pack your bags.

Keep believing. :)

So OP used about 25GB out of bundle.
Ask Vodacom if they would be kind enough to change it to a bundle rate, would end up being around R1250 marker.

What 50k for 25gigs. Is Vodacoms data coming via rainbows.

OOB should be banned right now. I only use 1 to 2 gig mobile data a month. The rest is under WIFI for me.

Unintentional OOB has been banned, just about the time the OP got this bill, which is too late.

You must now expressly give permission for OOB to be applicable, and then it really is your own baby (except Cell C, they interpreted the spirit of the new ICASA regulations differently, but they offer the option to turn OOB off none the less)

Talking to a call center drone will get you nowhere. Start spamming your story on Twitter and Facebook and tag journalists and Vodacon in your posts/tweets.

Ouch. This is why I dont do contracts. And I rather buy phones cash.

I have to say i got billed for 1gb of data R300 by telkom the other day on my DSL Uncapped line. They said they will reverse it. Lets see.

Take the matter up with the CPA and Bank Oumbodsman ( long shot )
Vodacom gave you a 50K line of credit which you don’t qualify for.
