Vodascum needs the bonus too

Put the tinfoil hat away before you hurt yourself. They're losing more money from bad PR on this than they could get by investing the money for a couple of days. This is just a hidden method by vodacom to use public funds to enrich themselves. They double the debit orders, then they invest all the billions in the money market for four days. By doing this they make millions in interest. Suddenly they claim a system glitch and blame the public holidays for for the 4 day delay. Typical SA corruption.

Bad PR doesn't have an immediate effect but that doesn't mean it can't be huge. All those millions of people that had their monthly budget screwed because of this are certainly going to be thinking twice before signing on the dotted line again. How? People on debit orders cant exactly cancel. They are powerless and this has made VC millions if not more than that.
Why do you think it can't just malfunction? I'd be very surprised if this was intentional. Just getting this sht reversed is going to cost them a mountain of money. How can a system malfunction like that unless someone did it on purpose?

Just got this per SMS:
Dear Customer, due to a technical glitch, your account may have been debited twice. We are resolving the problem. Where a second debit was processed, Vodacom will ensure that refunds and all associated banking charges are paid by close of business on Monday at the earliest. We apologise for the mistake and inconvenience caused
At the earliest?
Vodacom double debits costumers, promises full refunds
Thulani Gqirana, News24
Cape Town – Vodacom costumers who had their accounts debited twice will be refunded by Monday, according to the cellphone company.
On Friday, a number of Vodacom customers complained that their accounts had been debited twice.
In an SMS to costumers on Friday afternoon, the cellular network said it was aware of the problem.
"Dear customer, due to a technical glitch, your account may have been debited twice. We are resolving the problem," the message read.
"Where a second debit was processed, Vodacom will ensure that refunds and all associated charges are paid by close of business Monday at the earliest. We apologise for the mistake and the inconvenience caused."
MyBroadband reported on Friday that Vodacom spokesperson Tshepo Ramodibe had confirmed that they had experienced a technical glitch that resulted in a group of customers' accounts being debited twice.
Ramodibe said they were investigating the cause. He did not say how many costumers were affected.

Software is never perfect. There is always some fringe case that wasn't considered that can trigger a bug. Having used a computer yourself I'm sure you can see how computers and "flawless" doesn't go together. So then how does a computer system just "malfunction" like this?
Not saying for sure it was intentional we will never know but how does a system that works flawlessly usually just do this all of a sudden?
