Vodacom: #EpicFail

Vodacom announced that they will throttle the speed of BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers using more than 100MB per month. Internet users are not happy

epic doesn't do magnitude of this failure justice.

Why is it an #EpicFail? People have been abusing the system for far too long. The writing has been on the wall for a while, and people can't claim that they weren't warned about being reckless.

I doubt that the other networks will be very far behind.

OT: this may be the beginning of the end for BB in SA. Never thought my prayers would be answered :p

its not even one gig? Thats the epicness of the failure.

Fail because 'abuse' is defined as "more than 100MB"

lol, must say one thing.

My 3g has been much faster of late, guess I understand why now :)

Wait Wait hold up, aren't these clowns in an SLA agreement with RIM?

This is absolutely ridiculous. Vodacom have taken away the sole reason that people would sign up for a Blackberry contract in the first place. Are they even allowed to unilaterally alter the service that they offer you? When I signed my contract, it was for uncapped internet. Now I am paying R60 for 100mb....

And no, I am not one of the abusers, but this is a major kick in the teeth.

RIM also got hammered by these clowns downloading nilly-willy. Keep in mind that RIM's servers have to create a secure tunnel for every download a Blackberry device does - and this takes away resources that could better be used for mail processing.

100Mb is too small, it's an insult.

Rather make that 3Gb to start off with.

On that note, the guy who've thought the 3Gb cap originally out, is he now working at Vodacom?

This is tween cruelty! They'll be forced to have like real conversations now!

And in other news: High School pupils went on the rampage today over Vodacom's decision to throttle Black Berry users abusing the system and having the wool pulled over their eyes.

VodaSCUM: WHAT? 5% of BB users are Abusers?

One of the main concerns highlighted by users was that they were not aware of facilities which allowed them to check their monthly BlackBerry data usage.

I was also not aware of this. Where can you check?

#LOL

Blackberry user anoying you? SPAM their Facebook pages with large Youtube clips to burn through their cap.

Seriously though, just how ridiculous is it that we refer to 100MB's as total month's worth of data - not even Telkom would stoop that low! We used to download more than 100MB/month on a 28K modem in the beginning of internetz in SA.

Sure the user only gets throttled, not cut off, but at least make the target something more realistic like 500MB-1GB.

Vodacom has been an Epic fail for awhile now, nothing new here.

Remember 1GB+1GB promotion, contract data prices, prepaid data prices that cost more on certain packages.

Now Blackberry BIS. What a joke.

Cell C & 8ta FTW!

Its like buying a car with a top speed of 300km/h, only to be forced to drive at 60km/h after you have driven 10km :D

LOL

EDIT : You should say up to 300km/h (T&C apply)

I understand the speed cap but 100MB is too little. Sad thing is Vodacom and MTN will always have the power to do things like this because of the brand loyalty most South Africans have.
