Hi if anybody can help me I would appreciate it.

Got a few questions and maybe you guys know cause tech support sure doesn't:)

1) Is there a way to ban a number from your phone without calling voda itself?
(By this i mean that that number will never even ring on your phone or will be directed straight to voicemail?) Isn't there perhaps a *something*number# you can just do? If there isn't I really think there should be.

2) Why am I still paying R2/MB for GPRS with vodacom? Are there any plans to reduce this ridiculous rate or do I have only the option of buying a bundle or using a different service provider?

3) When a phone gets stolen will Vodacom release the records of the calls that were made on that phone to assist the South African Police services in
tracing the person who stole it? If so, who do you contact to accomplish this?

4) How does one unsubscribe from a premium SMS service if they keep deducting money from your prepaid account and you have no way to see who it is that's doing it?

Basically No, yes or yes.

Ultimately, as much as we consumers dislike data bundles, they are here to stay.

PS: Welcome to MyBroadband.

Number 3 is an almost definite "NO".

They only release those records for VERY serious crimes like murder, rape, etc. and even then they won't necessarily do it without a watertight warrant.

Theft is just not a priority.

Most crimes in this country arn't a priority... unless you're in government... get used to it.

1) Some handsets can do it, the network can't.

2) Why are you running OOB? If you buy a bundle you can pay 19c/Mb.

3) Yes, if requested by the police.

4) Ask 155 to get the details. Mail them on [email protected]

In the case of 1), the answer is a definite YES, provided you don't have a very old phone.

PM me if you want to know how.

@vodacom3g - Not everyone wants a 2GB bundle that expires after 30 days!!!!!

Most users only use GPRS for MxIT and stuff like that.

If you're not a "power user", you should rather move over to Virgin. 50c/MB without any stupid bundles is the best you can possibly do.

2) Why are you running OOB? If you buy a bundle you can pay 19c/Mb.

Because to pay 19c/Mb on contract you'd need to buy a 5Gb bundle costing R989, and then use it up with 30 days? Or on prepaid, R 389.00 for 2Gb, still 30 days?

I'm not saying there aren't valid reasons for the OOB of R2/mb. But saying that you don't need to go OOB because you can buy a bundle isn't valid either.

It's all about matching your usage patterns to the available bundles, so I don't disagree with you. I've got a 20MB bolt-on on my voice phone, so I can check mail headers, etc. during the month.

There are a number of bundle types: contract, bolt-on, ad-hoc and pre-paid all with varying sizes. By managing your bundle purchase every month, you can pretty much stay away from OOB.

Contract prices are only higher than pre-paid, if a modem is included, otherwise all bundles are the same price.

Don't get me wrong - I lluuurrrve Vodacom - but the thing is, I find the website completely unhelpful in terms of setting up 3G and getting information about it.

So linking to just the home page, is not useful. When you really have to LOOOK in able to find the actual page which leads to 3G. And when I finally got there, I was like, "Well this is complete waste of time." Thats why I came on here because vodacom does not offer enough information on their actual website.

Then get yourself ADSL. do2 @ R260 + R112 line rental = R372.

372 < 389 and even the 384kbps is a lot faster and more stable than HSDPA/3G can ever hope to be.

And you even get a FREE modem with self-install.

I don't find it unhelpful, quite the opposite.... the only problem is you cant bloody find anything its so dis-organised... i mean downloads ( firmware, wallpapers etc etc ) are under "About Vodacom".... wtf!

V3G, can u maybe relay this back to whoever is incharge of the site and have them maybe reorganise that mess... pleeeez :D?

edit: coverage is under "packages".... ne body else finding this confusing

OK - it's MUUUUCH better then MTN's and Virgin's is just a disgrace in my personal opinon.

They want it to be so 'hip' that it's a complete flop! -LOL-

However, I wanted to know what steps I needed to take to activate 3G on my phone, ect, ect, and they couldn't help.

And I agree with you Acid! :)

You have to look and guess where it could be. Aha
It is under packages & then browse packages. etc.

I had the same problem and found that there were 3 links to 3 seperate downloads pages. These have now been fixed.

So guys BP and give some feedback so they can make it look, feel and work better.

We've already started a re-design of both vodacom.co.za and 4me (soon).

If we make it too simple, people complain that there's not enough info, if we add to much, it's too complicated...

I don't think the current 'Mobile Data' section is too bad, except for the description and distinction of contract, ad-hoc, bolt-on and pre-paid bundles.

I use 'Services' -> 'Mobile Data' to get to all the info, although you can also get there from 'Packages'
