Vodacom iPhone 5S, 5C pre-order prices announced

Is there a code to deciphering those contract names? Fancy names with prices mean nothing unless you know what you get for it...

Expensive - I am cheaper off buying the phone cash and running on prepaid - will save about 2K over the years and no contract lock-in. (With buying cash, I mean getting the 64GB for about 11K).

Yep, agreed

So Apple never released a budget phone, they just made their top end category more expensive ?

Or is this Vodacom ?

Either way, no surprises.

Apple haven't released a budget phone. And I doubt they ever will. They don't like swimming at the bottom.
Their top end price has remained the same btw

Agreed - Cell C and Telkom Mobile have sim-card only/BYOD contracts on month-to-month where u get contract rates but no commitment besides giving notice.

I decided to go this route however have had my own fair share of problems trying to break free from Vodacom with my number:

It is true though, from the hardware side, there's kind of a major difference between the 5S and 5C. Umm...well, it's just the SoC and and scanner right?

My thought was going to be around why the price is so close if the hardware is so different...

I suppose people buy with their hearts and not the brains.

The 5s is a monstrously powerful phone with some very high end features. Not everyone needs or wants that
The 5 is still one of the best phones around, so a new looking device with the same internals is a win for many people.

Cell C will be cheaper, or will offer more value for your money.

It definitely is a very powerful phone, almost on par with baytrail, but what very high end features are you referring to ?

The A7 chip, M7 Chip, Camera and and TouchID. They are all very high end, and quite possibly not needed for many people

On a side note, while Baytrail has similar (and even slightly more powerful in some aspects) power, it's power to watt ratio is bad, meaning it is going to fail pretty badly in the mobile market
