Vodacom launches 5G mobile network

Never thought we will still have a capped data during the 5G era. 5G will finish that 100gb in 3 days. I wonder who is prepared to sign a 24/36 month in this time and age. This will never compete with Rain 5G unless if they launch in areas where there is no Rain.

They launched in Cape Town before Rain:ROFL:

I think 5G on rain is a "fixed service".
OK, I see what you are getting at now.
Remember how rain locked their network so that it would only work with certain routers, and it would not allow you to use the sim in a phone?
I don't think that is what makes a network fixed or mobile. I think a fixed network means one can only attach to certain base stations, but I could be wrong too.

Don't sign a 24 months contract when there are only 18 towers to use. You know how bad this will get rapidly...

So I did a drive around with my Huawei H112 5G CPE Pro.

Very limited coverage in Centurion. In fact I could ONLY get coverage at Eco Park Estate area.... Speeds were meh.....
It's possible they are limiting the speed per person. They did say one could get up to gig speed but that doesn't make sense in terms of long term expectations

Not sure it peaked at about 280Mbps ish then settles around the 200Mbps mark. I wasn't as close to the tower as possible because I'm not an Eco Park Estate resident but yeah it should give over 200Mbps to residence inside the Estate I would imagine.

Vodacom is just playing with words and terminology. Rain launched the 1st fixed 5G network(lock to 1 tower), Vodacom launched 1st mobile 5G network(can connect to any 5G tower).

Rain 5G is not fixed.

Used my simcard to do drive tests all over. You can travel from PTA CBD to JHB cbd and JHB surrounds without losing 5G signal once. I'm not guessing I did the test.

It would've been nice if there was not a 36-month obligation.

I am sure they will have better deals coming once they have more coverage. I am actually shocked by the poor coverage. If Liquid has been building their 5G network for how long, is this all of it? Bit dissapointed but excited we finally getting the technology on a more mainstream network

Those prices are not cute, no mam.... and you have to sign your soul away to a contract :(
