Vodacom launches LTE

I phoned in yesterday to activate LTE, got the sms and... nothing (iPhone 5 a1429 GSM model). Went to a voda store today and apparently it wasnt activated, they said they'd activate it and still nothing. I'm further south than what the LTE map (if you can call it that) shows LTE coverage but i thought at least i'd get the LTE toggle in my network preferences or get some LTE goodness when i went into town, but unfortunately not. Can any one can shed some light?

No. Sim requirement is 64k minimum. Then we still have to activate LTE for you which is something I can do or the shops or customer care. Once that is done...you need to change your APN. That is what the memo said....that is what Jannie said (I spoke to him and asked him this personally and he confirmed it) .... and I have confirmed it on a live number on the system....it needs to be activated. Even so....you need LTE equiment....so either modem/router or a phone ... else we can activate untill we blue in the face...but you will still only get HSPA

How much for this LTE devices? An arm and a leg?

We (dealers and shops) have not been informed about the pricing of the LTE modems and hopefully routers. I heard that stock is expected to land end of October so we should know more then. LTE phones hopefully should come in soon also. I am holding thumbs for the Moto RAZR M :-)

You must change your APN to lte.vodacom.co.za

It was in one of the news articles :D

You will probably have to wait for the iPhone 5 to be launched by Vodacom. Until then you won't get a carrier bundle for Vodacom that enables the LTE toggle. I only get the LTE toggle on my iPad3 when I insert my AT&T sim card. As soon as I switch to my vodacom sim it disappears. The AT&T sim card is not even active so it doesn't detect LTE on the network or anything like that.

I thought as much, I was hopeful there was at least something I could do on my side and that it didn't totally rely on the carrier settings being updated. Guess I'll sit tight and wait for vodacom...

Due to the lack of posts in the SpeedTest thread for the past 2 days, can I safely assume that not a single MyBB user has gotten LTE speeds... ?

(Or everyone has, and they're too busy enjoying the speed to post results ;p)

More like for Apple. Getting LTE active on the handset will be the same process as getting the hotspot feature active on the iPad 3.

People, you need a LTE radio inside your phone if you want to connect to a LTE tower.

If your handset was released with a HSPA+ radio, not even a 2048k sim card is gonna give you a connection to a LTE tower.

Vodacom + LTE

Vodacom is erecting a tower about 500m from my house - how can I be sure it is an LTE tower? Is there a number I can phone to see? According to their coverage map I don't have LTE in my area, but surely they wouldn't erect a tower now that doesn't support LTE... right?

Can anyone help?

Would depend where you are. If your are in a urban area...it will most likely be LTE ready. Wether LTE will then be switched on @ that tower will depend if sufficient backhaul is available to that tower...in other words...fiber.

If you are in Pofadder...chances of it being LTE ready...mmm doubtful.
