Vodacom launches LTE

Yeah, I put that out. Were getting too many emails from people asking why their grey iPhone 5's do not show LTE.

Aah, I had a feeling you were behind that :) So what is the process of getting the updated bundle then if I may ask? Do you compile a request to Apple to issue the updated bundle and then just wait for them?

Obviously the phone must fir be officially released in SA by Apple before they'll do anything.

Then there's a whole process that *should* go smoothly to get the carrier bundles released. Sometimes not though. iPad hotspot issue a case in point.

I "fixed" that one for you ;)

LTE

No one testing yet? Gosh... I thought people would be so excited to try it out :D

1) Not easy to get a LTE modem, right now you have to courier one in from overseas.

2) With Vodacom you need an open-ended data contract to get LTE, no Top Up or Prepaid. I will leave this for the brave (and foolish) people among us.

LTE devices not available @ vodacom store yet.I realy don't know how they launched it when customers can't purchase devices

Let me check with my stores if they have any left on Monday. It is not the model you stipulated though. Are you in Joburg?

Yes, I am in Joburg. PM me if you have anything, with details. Thanks.

I want to use it in a router, though, not sure if all models will work in it.

AFAIK the Huawei models do.

The truth is if you have a LTE device/modem in a area with coverage on a SIM that is LTE enabled on Top Up, Open Ended or Prepaid it will operate on Vodacom - Jola :D

Vodacom said that they would only LTE enable open-ended contracts.

But I am happy to try !

The problem is that they will not enable LTE on a prepaid or top-up contract. They are waiting for people to start pulling 20MB/s OOB.. Imagine R40 per second, or R2400 per minute, that Vodacom can legally hold you to :)

I guess you say this because of the speed and people not monitoring their data usage ... or are there additional costs involved?

You have PM

Please share!!! I am also looking for a LTE modem ... pretty please
