Vodacom launches Reverse Charge service

may be nice for school kids contacting their parents when they forgot to pick them up from school but the fact that they don't even allow the use of free minutes is really a joke.

If the person sends a please call me it uses free minutes when you call them back. If they reverse call you you pay normal rates. So this is in fact a step backwards from please call me's.

I didn't use the first so I'm sure this one is not going to be on top of my list

Another thought I just had: even friggin video calls using cellphones use free minutes on Vodacom yet this you have to pay for. Really is a joke.

Lets not put out the Christmas lights (and spirit) like Eskom hey. Christmas is a time of giving, Vodacom!

5. Can customers choose not to accept a Reverse Charge call?

Yes. When a Reverse Charge call is directed at a customer, they will receive the following IVR message: "Please confirm whether you are willing to accept Reverse Charges from <MSISDN> by pressing 1.

So now i gotta start remembering everyones numbers again, hell i don't even know what MY home phone number is

Good point, I hadn't thought of that!

Also doesn't help if someone's phoning from a borrowed phone in an emergency (for example, if their battery is flat) - sure, you wouldn't get your normal caller id then either, but there's less risk to accepting the call if it's not a reverse charge.

I'm ambivalent about this - I think it could come in useful, but it could also be a nuisance. Does that blocking facility allow whitelisting, or is it just blacklisting?

Bit draconian to slate a service if it's not applicable to you, don't you think? Not sure who's holding a gun to your head?

While it might not be applicable to you, there would be many uses where this will work, (kids, employees readily comes to mind). But then, I guess, we only have one type of user on the mobile networks and you're that person? Any other requirement, by any other kind of user is bull-****?

Maybe read the FAQ I posted a few days ago on how the system will work and how you can disable it, if required.

Ok ok, I see your point ......sorry

No probs :)

20 million users and everyone wants a specific service. :)

For the product guys to develop any product (like this one, for example) means there were a fair amount of calls for it.

I often feel we have too many products, I've got no idea what they all are... But all of them have their own specific subset of users.
