Okay, this is okay.

* Download time: 14.688 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 277.8 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 34 (kiloBytes/second)

I would also love to know what went wrong, but unfortunately I don't think it's the cause of just one thing. I do believe however that there are multiple errors throughout the network and they're trying to sort them out.

This is however speculation by myself, as it just seems logical that there would have to be multiple problems in order for it to have taken so long to be fixed. I.E, they fix the one problem, then discover that is was something else that caused it, then find something else.

3G A-OK in Vanderbijlpark. Connects first time and the speed test result as follows:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 27 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 151.1 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 18.5 (kiloBytes/second)

I have always experienced slower speeds between 18h00 and 21h00 in the evening. Looks good I guess.

3g now only connects with the biometrics dialer for me ... dash just stays on connecting but doesnt move.

Update from Pretoria - Moreleta Park:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 147.352 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 27.7 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 3.4 (kiloBytes/second)

20:19 Broadband reports

2005-08-24 14:19:19 EST: 204 / 25
Your download speed : 209032 bps, or 204 kbps.
A 25.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 26001 bps, or 25 kbps.

I'm glad to see it working one way. What about the uploads?

A few points of feedback:

- Quite a few problem situations were identified and rectified, including one (which we believe at the moment) to be the main cause. I don't want to get too excited, the guys will watch it tonight to make sure all's well, then we'll make a public statement. Nothing sinister, just don't want to get too cocky too soon. :rolleyes:

- Expect a short disruption (1 to 2 minutes) in the service tonight at 11PM. Some of the redundant kit needs to be reintroduced. You should not loose your connection but data will stop while a cable is swapped.

- Most of the performance tests looks good, with some exceptions, notably BBSA and RPM. Will follow up on this.

RPM, where did you test from? Physical addr?

BBSA, could you test in Centurion?

- Some of the test results are just plain wrong. Biometrics, myself and some other people got speeds way in excess of wirespeed (384Kb/s). I remember Rabbiddog always got those crazy upload speeds. See he's still at it!

I just tested a few times and got between 200Kb/s and 320Kb/s.

Centurion Okay

Just to let you know that Centurion 3G is up and running at the moment

Thanks

When your guys came to do tests last week they were downloading at speeds of over 100 K Bytes per second (way over 384 K bits per second) from smtp.vodacom.co.za to my house. Saw this with my own eyes. They said that 384 Kbps is the quality of service and that the cell will burst when there is capacity available.

I was a bit stunned by this and asked them to confirm this info which they did.

Something to do with the cell "breathing" (expanding it's range by increasing transmission power), they explained.

Not sure I understood completely, can you confirm/explain?

It is good to see that the service is working again.

rpm; It does not take a lot to make you happy :rolleyes:

IC, I agree that they are aware of the problem, but can someone explain to me why do we experience slow or no connectivity speeds on GPRS, what is the cause of the problem - and again it is one thing to ackowledge the problem, on its on right it is nobel, but I need more knowledge (internet sites) and understanding about the why of the problem - can anybody help.

V3G I appreciate your time and effort and I must say I dont envy your task.
