Vodacom now using a double opt-in system for WASPs

"However, Vodacom said that Mira had jumped the gun a little as MESH, a system that would enforce a double opt-in system across Vodacom’s network, wasn’t quite ready at that point."

Reality for me is that MESH seemed to be only enforced on select WASPS and Vodacom was not going to do a blanket enforcement for some time. As an ex-employee of Mira I have a good understanding of not only what was involved, Mira's role in MESH but I do agree with my former employer making a press statement.

The WASPS had ample time to integrate with MESH and should not make excuses as to why they did not and its in the interest of the consumer that they make it live ASAP.

Will the opt-in also be required of WASP's who already have your number and are currently spamming you or is this only going forward?

About time, excellent work, Vodacom.

If you're bored, just go onto hellopeter and look for Opera Telecom complaints for example. There are hundreds if not thousands of complaints about "unauthorised" subscriptions, people literally being robbed of hundreds of rands unknowingly it seems in most cases.

Pity the double opt doesn’t work – it would have saved me quite a lot of money before I realised what was happening and stopped it. Vodacom staff told me (June 2017) that “Vodacom know what is happening and are powerless to stop it.” One of the staff members told me that she had also ended up paying – but for only a week before it was stopped. So Vodacom can’t / don’t even protect their own staff.
