Just read the article on ITWEB and it just makes me feel uncomfortable.

Tellkom have a 50% share in Vodacom with the latter wanting to increase it's stake on iBurst.

/me smells some monopoly or price coliation.

Hope they are not taking tips from tiger brands

Actually the investment in iBurst is to get AWAY from Telkom's grip on the local market.

The Vodacom/iBurst WiMAX service, for example, is in direct competition to Telkom's own WiMAX offering.

You might also have read all the current activities around the potential sale of Telkom's shares in Vodacom.

Telkom and Vodacom have serious business conflicts, if anything, I imagine the relationship with Telkom sucks for them now.

I also think that the Telkom-Vodacom relationship is not necessarily a marriage made in heaven. Vodacom is now clearly taking on Telkom in the corporate space, and is not always using their products – in fact, they are trying as far as possible not to.

Thats honestly REALLY got to suck for Telscum....

Lets have a 50% stake in this nice young company... 15 odd years later this young little whipper snapper starts stealing your clients... and is a hell of a lot more succesful than you, and continuously thumbs its nose at you...

Hell actually that sounds like most parent child relationships :p

They are both clueless - iBurst lost the plot over a year ago when it thought that extending its footprint in PE and not even bothering to do anything in East London, which has x2 the population in the city area and x4 the population in the Metro district - Telkom on the other hand have seen record growth in this area, and are keen to keep it, as other areas are drying up - if they ever tell you (VC iBurst) that they have empowered people, ask them why the set up in PE and left EL alone - the answer is they went for what they thought was the big money

it's an open secret in the markets that Vodacom's business decisions are often at loggerheads with what Telkom wants.

That's why the sale of most of Telkom's stake to Vodafone can only be a matter of time.
