Vodacom Outage

Strange problem, could call Telkom and MTN numbers but not Vodacom.

That was in Sunninghill & Rivonia this morning.

By the time I got to Rosebank at 11am it was sorted. Or seemed to be ......

I'm down in Paarl and it's still not working for me, how can they say a small percentage was affected when everyone here on the forum is experiencing it and we're located all over SA?

Because they want to cover something up - nothing gets up my nose quicker than a lie that is easily exposed.

The truth will set you free, people. I have always maintained it is easier and better to just be honest from the start, because once the lies begin to unravel, you either lose face straight away, or you need to tell more lies to cover up the first ones.

I also feel that since most people seem to have had the problem (and I had clients email me this morning because their network was down), it cannot be a "small percentage" - maybe we need a poll.

Its called 'smoke and mirrors' also 'they are lying through their teeth'. It seems the only way to fix problems like this is to either take to the streets and call a public protest, or to just cancel your service and go to another supplier (ie make them hurt).

Yeah, but what annoys me is: there is no need to lie Everyone has a problem sometime - anyone who claims otherwise is lying. Admit it, fix it, apologise, move on. Simple. People will soon forget about it if you do it that way. But lie and annoy people, and the problem will haunt you for ever. (Case in point: Eskom sabotage incident).

Actualy to be more exact, I realy do not give a sh*t why it is broken, how many is broken and who is to blame for it.

Point is, it is currently broken! I dont have service! I pay monthly for service!

I dont want to hear that it is 'insert other suppliers' fault. I dont have a contract with the other supplier, you have. So I want YOU to fix MY problem. End of story. Tell my when YOU will fix MY problem...

I do not blame Vodacom for having a problem - as I said, everyone has problems. I do blame them for the silence, smoke and mirror reports, and lack of reasons though.

Why is it that in this country all the large corporations seem to think that we are all so dumb that a little bit of spin will fix the problem? There was no "small percentage" of affected users. From everything I've heard the entire national Vodacom infrastructure was offline for 3 hours today and is still not running properly, btw - I now have a signal but cannot make calls (1pm)!!!

It is not just "this country". All large corporations think so. And the more money they have, the more dumb they think we are. In fact, the entire advertising industry is built along the lines of spin. "If you wear this cologne, gorgeous playboy bunnies will have sex with you - regardless of the fact that you are a pimply a$$ed kid with no real sense of personal hygiene"

What a day for the cell network to go down.
I paid top dollor for an advertisement to go out for an event i am hosting this weekend. Some people can call me and others are unable to call me... !!!!
ARG!!!!!!! VODACOM!!!!!!

Off topic - you mean that is *NOT* going to happen???? After all these years of using EGO/AXE???? Eish eish eish :(

Someone sabotaged Vodacom's switching centre, but dont want to say anything. Its the oposite of what happened with Eskom ;)

btw, I dont know ANYONE that has not experienced this problem. In my opinion this is larger than simply a minor networks failure.

Really - I heard it was a loose bolt that did it! ;)

As posted earlier in this thread, a HLR upgrade did not go as planned and had to be rolled back. Some number ranges were affected and others not.

If you're still experiencing problems, try and switch your phone off and back on again. This will force a location update and should sort you.

So to clarify; it was not a network problem; the radio and other network elements were not the cause.

Also, I don't see any signs of lies or coverups, must say.

Just overactive conspiracists :)

Why not announce the HLRIDs that were affected? Would have been much less of a PR disaster then. It is not a "small percentage" if a whole HLR was down.

Thanks for a good laugh. So since when is a HLR MSC not a NE?
