Vodacom pre-paid hits 2c per-second

Next thing my local garage will charge me 20% more for petrol, provided I opt in...

How dumb can VC get?

"We are more expensive, because we are better ......"

Vodacom said that customers will enjoy a flat rate of R1.20 per minute that is billed per second.

 While Vodacom's former customers are enjoying much better any time flat rates of R0.99/min and R0.95/min to any network from Cell C and 8ta respectively.

What the hell are the marketing people at Vodacom smoking?

Discussion in marketing boardroom:

"Let's launch a product to compete with Cell C and, here's the best bit, let's make it 20c per minute MORE expensive than the product we're competing against. I'm sure that will work!"

Well, if I read about all the call connection and data issues that Cell C have and Vodacom giving me no issues I'll rather pay that little bit extra.

I don't get it: why would anyone who wants to or needs to stay on Vodacom, switch from the far more advantageous 'Daily Free Calls' prepaid plan to this one? On DFC calls are also R1.20/min, but if you're calling VC numbers you only pay for the first 3 minutes and the next 57 are free. VC has accomplished the singular feat of introducing a new price plan which is actually worse than the existing one.....

It really depends on where you are. Where I live in Cape Town I can only get Edge on Vodacom, but on Cell C I get full 3G. In other parts of Cape Town it's the opposite. That's the reason why I have prepaid data sim cards from both providers.
