Vodacom prepaid data prices slashed

Wish they could make these prices permanent instead of a promotion the 500mb for R99 is perfect for most smartphone users.

CellC has permanent prepaid pricing of 500mb for R75...

Something to note too on Vodacom vs CellC over say a 6 month period:

Vodacom
User buys a 500mb bundle every month. Cost R99x6=R594.
Usage however is 200mb per month for 3 months and 800mb per month for the other 3 months. So with OOB of R2/mb you end up paying 300x3x2=R1800 more.
Total cost with Vodacom for 6 months comes to R594+R1800=R2394.

CellC
User uses data at 15c/mb.
Usage however is 200mb per month for 3 months and 800mb per month for the other 3 months.
Total cost with CellC for 6 months comes to 3000x0.15=R450.

This assumes that you have airtime loaded to foot the Vodacom bill. Otherwise when with Vodacom, you either do without internet for a portion of time or you spend more to buy another bundle. Used Vodacom's 30 day special price here.

Any answer here?

+1.The more complicated it is to buy these bundles the better for VC it seems. I'm surprised you don't have to solve a puzzle or two going through the USSD menu before trying to purchase one of these "promotional" bundles.....

Doesn't VC data expire after 60 days? So then you didn't go OOB, right? Assuming that usage was alternating of course.

I suggest that someone gets the Scameelperd more whiteboard markers: the only data bundle that is value for money is the promotional MyGig20, the rest are IMHO still too expensive.

20GB of mobile data to use within 30 days is quite a lot though ... ?

This special price expires after 30 days. Their normal 500mb price is R159 which lasts up to the end of the following month. So total cost ends up being R159x6=R954 using normal pricing and assuming no OOB usage. However I'm not sure if Vodacom uses a "first in, first out" approach for prepaid data bundles. Their contracts use a "last in, first out" approach, so you can only carryover every second month.

Yes it is and considering that I have problems with Vodacom signal and bandwidth in my area, I think I will wait for the next data bus to come along.

FAIL...
Cannot see these specials on USSD or the My Vodacom app... Fix it Vodacom.....

So when are these "specials" reflecting on the Vodacom site/ My Vodacom app?

^this

what's the bloody point of having a promotion when you have to jump through hoops to use it, can't find it on Vodacom or Vodacom Shop and it sure has hell hasn't pulled through to Nedbank and I really need to top up with mobile data

The only way is USSD at the moment as jannie said earlier in the thread. Yeah very irritating cause you can't even track usage without using a cellphone.

I also thought I might have data left after 30 days but after updating Mac 2gb, iMovie + iPhoto 2gb, various others Mac updates 500mb, ubuntu, 2 gb I accidentally deleted my partition and had no live CD backup, this won't last 30 days.

Apparently there is the option to buy recurring bundles if you use the vodacom app. Still not sure if it is on the USSD menu somewhere...

The 20GB promotion at R499 doesnt show up on any of the VC portal options to buy data bundles.
The vodacom app doesnt show it either.
Any ideas as to how I can access this offer for an iPad, as the USSD option wont apply here.

You will probably have to put the sim in a phone and use the USSD there.

If you are jailbroken look for U-Browser or QueryUSSD (both free). There is also emDial in the AppStore (free) - have not tested this.

"We've been havin' it!"

iUSSD Lite
It doesn't look like there's a USSD solution for Google's Nexus tablets yet, but someone should log an Android issue for that:
