Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Montana/Doornpoort area

Hello,

Since yesterday around 11:30 I have been unable to connect to the Vodacom network using GPRS and/or 3G. From around 16:30 GPRS access was restored but I still having issues with the 3G/HSDPA network.

I am able to connect and VMC shows that data is going up to the network but nothing is coming back. When connected with GPRS it works although frequent timeouts occur.

BlackBerry works fine although it is slow as usual and almost impossible to browse the web. Large downloads take forever but in another thread I see that VC/RIM are busy upgrading the links to RIM.

I have logged a call with data helpdesk but when calling to update this morning was told by Leigh that the systems are down and she cannot give me an update.

This is in the Montana/Doornpoort area in Pretoria.

Broadacres / Fourways, last 2 days throughput has been very bad, lots of disconnects,, so SLOW.

I have no hsdpa coverage all of a sudden, internet connection is timing out / unknown response. hAD TO switch hsdpa mode off and use normal 3g and gprs to get the connection going.

Its so early in da morning!! Thot internet would be better to use now...

Durban : Mt edgecombe/Phoenix area

Hsdpa 3.6 device

What is wrong with Vodacom these days. Every couple of days I have trouble connecting or doing anything online. And I'm not the only one, since calling 155 gets me a 'We are experiencing high volume of call' message.

Usually it just lasts the evening but is has been two days now.

O m w!! Why is HSDPA sooo friggin slow??? Doing the vodacom speed test; I get 16 in the centre!! Sheesh.

What's been going on with Vodacom's connections lately? I can connect just fine, but it's so sloooowwww. This is so frustrating, it was working perfectly, and the last 2 weeks it's been dreadful. And I have the problem in Bronkhorstspruit and Midrand, on different devices, different sims.

seems to be slow speed and very high latency at the following
tower id 50142 pings up to 877 ms on local sites was usually around 100-130ms???

Experienced massive delay on Vodacom the entire day. Later switched over to OpenDNS and the speed is back to acceptable. Definitely screwed in some way IMHO.

Thanks Dex

Something is screwed you are right teraside, but everybody at Vc is quiet... Got a support guy to call me back today - he is sending somebody out to my site to have run some tests

Yeah i use the ginngs tool anyway something is up very high latency and disconnects.

I am sitting in exactly the same spot from where my Vodacom modem gives me 10% of the speed - welcome to wonderful MTN infrastructure !!! 3Mb/Sec !!! I was happy when I got 1.8 from Vodacom and then in my opinion justifiably upset when that dropped to approx 350kbs (40KB/sec) some 6 weeks ago. Below is the result from my speed test and the Vodacom one further down at about the same time! (Same modem - same location , same software, same idiot user and attitude)

Thank you to everybody at Vodacom for making the effort to try and resolve my slow connection problem in the past 6 weeks - I now realise that I am just I small customer and that it is really not that important to resolve an issue that is clearly a network problem even though the individuals concerned really tried!
Both my modems, a 272 and an e620 in a linksys router returned speed result similar to the one in the link below - this after always getting speeds in excess of 200KB/Sec. The reply from Vodacom nothing substantial yet = still waiting really - some dude said it is the tower, the call centre tries to fix my Linux PC to no avail, a tech that came on site was instructed to reload my firmware - very logical since both the modems gave the same speed test results ! I refused when he was obviously clueless when it came to linux ... (p.s. the firmware that he brought for the Linksys router (not the modems) failed to install anyways - (I tried later that evening to flash the router ) In the end I loaded OpenWRT) Finally he used his laptop and modem to run his test - and oddly got the same results - 40KB/sec ... and since then I have heard nothing from Vodacom... When the connection dropped intermittently (and remained off for up to 4 hours) during the weekend - I had to suffer the ignorance yet again of call centre staff that cannot support a customer with half a brain - i.e. one that knows when it is not his computer or modem but the network.... maybe Vodacom should have a menu choice for people that dont want support (unplug your modem sir and reload your software... O sorry we don't support Linux sir ...) but would like to report a connection problem.... Thank you to Gerhard Grobler at Vodacom who tried to be understanding after this incident ...
However.... here is the results from the Vodacom speed test on Http://speedtest.net

So finally after trying my damnest to remain loyal to Vodacom (Silly fool me) I have eventually given up - I bought a MTN data package - thank heavens for choice - and the result is quite pleasing - my suggestion to other users - stop stuffing around with poor customer service and infrastructure disguised by excuses and hot air - take your business elsewhere. I am sure Vodacom won't miss me (only 6 - 8 Gb per month) ... but maybe they will miss another 10 000 users....

Good bye Vodacom Hello Yello !!!!

By the way I am also porting all my phone numbers... the only thing I might miss will be the vodacom4me website....

What is the probem with vodacom HSDPA

My vodacom HSDPA connection is really K@k,

I am in the Buccluech area and for the past two weeks I have been experiencing some seriously slow connection, is there a problem with my area or is it just vodacom not delivering?

I even got the vodacom advance package cause the sale guy at vodashop said it was fast. :(

I just did a speed test now and I am not really good with the MB/s stuff can someone tell me if this is good or bad:
