IC, do you seriously think anything is going to rollover @ 7.2?
...and in this economic climate, @ 7.2, I can only now purchase 500mb per month.
It's relative I guess but at the same time it's more universal considering the financial woes we're facing.
No, VC's Easter pressies "was" suppose to put money back into our pockets not create other ways for them to stuff their own pockets.

Lower prices would have been better as 3.6 is still OK to use.
So higher speeds I can do without for now, lower prices should have been the order of the day.

All I did is post a link to more detailed info - specifically linking to a list of v3g's posts in a news article thread - such that v3g doesn't have to repeat himself. The title I gave the link is in fact the title of the news article and associated thread.

If you want to know what I think, read my posts in that thread.

In other words, don't shoot the messenger! :D

Sorry, I thought you were implying that there are more goodies to look at.

You guys can relax already.
Price drops are DEFINITELY incoming.

Two words:
SEACOM... June...

SEACOM will DEFINITELY have an impact on prices.

Plainly put... Supply and demand.
We have a VERY small supply of international bandwidth. The SEACOM will clock in at 1.3TB/s if im not mistaken.

Also, if im not mistaken, thats about 12x the capacity of SAT-3.

If there were only 10 of a collector model car ever made... each would cost 10million dollars.
But if the exact same car were suddenly to have 120 of it made... the price would be less.

No its not a linear formula. Nothing in RL ever is.
But analysis predicts a rough 50% drop in prices within the first 6-12 months of SEACOM being active for use.

To further complicate the price market, everyone seems to hve forgotten EASSY.
EASSY will do practically exactly what SEACOM does, just on the other side of the continent.

Seriously people... within 2-4 years... we WILL have cheap internet. Maybe not as cheap as the rest of the world... but cheap in comparison to today.

we will be sharing that link with india and the rest of east africa. Prices shouldve started to drop by now. Sumbitch vodacom wont lower first of that I am certain.

Why would any prices drop DUE TO SEACOM... when SEACOM isnt even active yet?

Theyre still finishing connections, and then testing starts for a month+.

seacom is gonna do didly squat for broadband prices. All the large corporations will do their damnedest to maintain the status quo and make more money. Everyone is treating seacom like this shimmering oasis in the distance. I Dont think So.

I agree. BTW You got balls posting this, my stuff got deleted yesterday by Mao Tse-tung.

Sure it did not get moved?

In any case, Seacom WILL change pricing/structures.

Seacom will bring much more capacity.

So the general consensus when you talk to the players is that the first thing you'll see is an increase in bundle sizes for the same price, hopfully right up to uncapped.

So lets say you pay Rx for 1Gb today, then you'll start getting bigger bundles for the same price. So the price/MB will drop.

Then as the local network operators' fibre rings come online, you should see a similar kicker.

BB-A is the same as BB-S when it comes to roll over. Your bundle 'roll over' till the end of the next month. So, if you buy on the 1st, it'll be 60 days. If you buy on the 20th, it'll be 40 days.

Sorry, I just realised that I don't know whether you guys understand me correctly. Im not referring to rollover but out of bundle.
For instance, I buy a 2GB bundle on BA, it's used up and I continue out of bundle for how long @ 19c/MB?

For the same period as the original would have lasted, so also till the end of the next month from when you bought it.

Say you buy a 1GB bundle somewhere in April and you finish it before end of May. You'll run at that bundle's rate till the last day of May.
