Vodacom Rollover is here

Re: New Price Structure.

For the same period as the original would have lasted, so also till the end of the next month from when you bought it.

Say you buy a 1GB bundle somewhere in April and you finish it before end of May. You'll run at that bundle's rate till the last day of May.

Well first of all i want to say thanks for the rollover. I helps a lot.

What I can not understand, on my old 2gig datapack that I had, I have paid, and that include the modem, R449.00. Now with the new Structure, we are paying more. Ok I know the modem is include, but that is just a carrot infront of the customer and it looks like Vodacom have include the price of the modem in the new structure, but say that the modem is for free. that is what I can't understand. I've looked at MTN package and it seems like a better option for me. OK I know their network is not the same as Vodacom, but if it come to price, well who won't go for the cheaper and less speed. As for the 7.2 Network. I can bet my last dollar that nobody will have anything to rollover at the end of the month and that I have seens already at a friend of mine. From the moment of the announcement untill now, he have already used up his 2gig. So where will he end up account wise at this speed?

This is a common misconception of higher speed.

The entire thing is your data transfer limit atm. That has not changed. The size of the websites you visit, have not changed. No sizes have changed in any of those.

If your normal routine was to check mail, browse 2 forums, and play 2 hours a day of some game; And this cost you 2GB per month... then doing so at 50000000x the speed you had, you will STILL only need 2GB to do exactly those same things.

What does happen though, is that people get so excited with their new speed, that they start breaking their usual browsing and downloading habits.
THAT is what is causing you to run out of data.
Not the speed.

This is great news! Just one question though (maybe I missed it somewhere)

This is effective from 5th April 2009 - does this mean that if I already have a prepaid bundle loaded prior to this date, I will still lose any unused data?

e.g.
- I bought a 250MB prepaid data bundle on 22/03/2009 and expiry would be around the 21/04/2009.
- The roll-over is effective from 05/04/2009.
- If I still have 100MB left by the 21/03/2009 will this rollover to the end of April, or will I lose it because the bundle was activated before 05/04/2009?

I just need to know if I should use it now or not! :)

Sorry to bump this, but I need to get some clarity on this before I load further data bundle... :p :)

seacom is gonna do didly squat for broadband prices. All the large corporations will do their damnedest to maintain the status quo and make more money. Everyone is treating seacom like this shimmering oasis in the distance. I Dont think So.

+1

Some of the CEOs and senior guys in the companies have already said that international bandwidth only makes up part of the cost. Lol. Prices will drop but you aren't going to get uncapped 3.6 mb/s for R300 a month ;)

You believe international bandwidth makes up 100% of the cost?

Radio network, backhaul, systems, installations, support, maintenance, people all cost nothing?

OK, so what % of total cost do you believe international bandwidth is for a mobile operator?

I have no idea. So I post that the heads of the companies have stated that international bandwidth is not their only cost and so we shouldn't expect that prices will come down to 5% of what they are or whatever the latest article in the press is claiming. I have a little ironic laugh in the post because everyone thinks that prices will drop hectically but there are other costs to consider. Why are you chirping me? Seriously. Are we going to get uncapped Vodacom 3G for R300 after SEACOM launches? Am I wrong? If I am wrong I will be so happy that I will run throughout the streets singing...

Then I post that no I don't think that International bandwidth makes up 100% of your costs. Am I wrong again?

No

Lol. So I don't get what we are disagreeing about? SEACOM is not a shimmering oasis in a desert. Hopefully prices will drop though when it comes online. Looked at my previous post. Looks like a quotes the whole post of the other guy. What I meant was to agree with him that SEACOM won't be the answer to all our prayers...

will the customer get a notification at the end of the month of how much data is carried over to the next month or must the customer track this by himself/herself?

OK, we agree then. I read your post that you were laughing at the 'excuses' that international bandwidth is only a portion of total cost. The 'lol' was placed directly after the relevant sentence.

Actually, if you remove the 'lol' from your post it'll read more what you intended. ;)

Data bundles purchased on VC4Me

I just purchased a 3GB data bundle on Vodacom4me, but it shows the expiry date as 1 month from now.

Guess that's just something that has not been adjusted on the VC4Me web site?

A bit worried now. :o

Ummm - you should have waited till Friday if you could - they last up to 60 days - from when you purchase them until the end of the next month, so yours will expire at the end of May.
