Vodacom Rollover is here

What a load of absolute diddle.

You're trying to tell an audience of mostly IT people that a straight-plain 60 day cut-off system is difficult to implement.

Bwaaahahahahahaha!

Oh man. You have no idea how complex Vodacom's environment is. None whatsoever.

OK, a better question would be. If they were ABLE to change the old system, then should/could they have gone the whole hog and given us Ginggs' true rollover?

You are 100% correct.
So, instead of mocking them, I will apologise.

I apologise to Vodacom for saying that a 60 day stright-cuttoff system is easy to implement.

I also apologise for misunderstanding what 60 day roll-over meant.

Apology accepted. :)

Dave, while the majority of the people on this forum are very technical and often work on large system, few people understand the sheer scale of the Vodacom systems.

It's one thing to build a billing system that must bill a few thousand or even tens of thousands of people.

Quite another that must bill tens of MILLIONS of people, and mostly in real time.

The second consideration is the fact that any new system must fully support all legacy products. So if there is one little old lady who still use a product from 1996, it's still active in the system.

Trust me this thing is a monster. And trying to make changes is not a trivial, overnight thing. Wish it was. I've got a long wish-list.....;)

Not sure what you do, but if you're comfortable building these monster-size engines, lets talk. :)

How are we going to keep track of how much extra we are allowed to surf this month?

okay thanks, I see I need to log in with the cell no of the data contract, and it shows me how much rolled over...thanks, sorted!

Glad you got it sorted!

Vodacom4me is a great tool. I use it primarily to convert airtime to data bundles (I got a B970 router with a topup 400 contract) and check how much I've got left on my data bundles.

I'm too lazy to take the sim card out of the router and do the data conversion with a mobile phone. Just do it online. :)

Data Rollover - The Ripoff!!

Well we have finall moved into a new month, and us contract guy have been ripped off again.
As my data contract is reloaded on the 1 st of every month and the debit order immedialely cleared, the timing by Vodacom of announcing their rollover on the 5th of March effectively ruled me out of the first month of rollover and a consequental loss of one third of my unused data for March.
In think Vodacom should be commended on how they consistantly screw their loyal clients.
Unfortunately they in the position to dictate their terms now, ( with the best infrastructure nationally) but hopefully that will change as the others play catch up.

LOL...it's not the end of the world, Basilrsa.

I didn't read the terms and conditions of data rollover properly, so also got 'caught'.

V3G has explained it in another thread and it makes sense to me now.

That still does not explain why Vodacom made the change effective from the date of announcement onwards.
The only reason was to exclude all their contract customers with data renewal on the 1st of new month.
There cannot have been a IT implementation restriction.
I read V3G's explaination and it did not make sense for the customer then, or now! (Financially)
But exceed your limit and you get nailed!
I cannot see a fair balance here, involving the principle of give and take, been applied. It's all take!

I am now on Pre-paid and my Roll-over work fine. The only problem is that my dashboard usage is 0, so I have to ajust my data usage to what is left and carry on from there.

Hang in guys it will get better.

How is the rollover shown on V4me, for example i had 80mb left from March and have used 10mb so far today, surely this 10mb would come off the 80mb from March before it starts using my April 2GB, but it shows as:

Month Threshold Used Remaining
May 2.00GB 10.05 MB 1.99GB
April 2.00GB 1.92GB 80.17 MB

edit: V3G please can you read this thread and clarify the top up 400 for us

The way I understand is that your monthly allocation will first be used and after that it will carry on with what got rolled over.

so Vodacom3g, take mine for example
Month Threshold Used Bundle Remaining Bundle
May 500.00 MB 0.00 MB 500.00 MB
April 500.00 MB 324.59 MB 175.41 MB
March 500.00 MB 0.00 MB 500.00 MB

Does that mean i have basically 1175mb availb,e if i run my May over the 500mb, it will use my April 175mb and once that is used it will use my March 500mb?

The way I understand is that your monthly allocation will first be used and after that it will carry on with what got rolled over.
Thats a bit unfair then, cos if i dont use 2GB + 80MB this month i will lose the 80MB cos i can only carry over the remainder of my 2GB & not the 80MB :(
Another reason to not be on a contract

OK, my pre-paid is sorted and I'm happy with the rollover.

However, I checked my 1GB Contract 3G this morning and nothing seems to have rolled over from April - it showed that I had 893MB available as of 30/04/2009, and now I have my normal 1GB available from 01/05/2009 - is this also because of the implementation date being after 01 April 2009 and does this mean that my rollover will effectively only then be from the May cycle on the contract?

Confused...
