Vodacom Rollover is here

OK, my pre-paid is sorted and I'm happy with the rollover.

However, I checked my 1GB Contract 3G this morning and nothing seems to have rolled over from April - it showed that I had 893MB available as of 30/04/2009, and now I have my normal 1GB available from 01/05/2009 - is this also because of the implementation date being after 01 April 2009 and does this mean that my rollover will effectively only then be from the May cycle on the contract?

Confused...

Yes, I think so. If I understand correctly your lasr bundle came active the 1st of April? I.e. before roll-over kicked in.

If you added a top-up after the 5th, that should have rolled over.

Thanks v3g - makes sense. It's my work contract, so I don't have access to top-up during the month (1GB fixed) - I'll check it next month and see what happens.

I'm lost -
My monthly allocation = 500MB

March i went out of bundle -
April, I was left with - 85MB
May, I now have 670MB as the initial threshold

Product annoucements typically are effective from the date of announcement.

Very convienent timing to enrich Vodacom no doubt.
As MTN had made the first move the month before the Vodacom announcement, there was sufficient time to include the contract users, whose renewal of data fell between the 1st of April and the day of the announcement.
I agree that announcements are typically effective from the date of the announcement. But I can also argue that my data balance as at the day of the announcement must be taken into account.
So Vodacom give us the rollover on our accounts as at the end of April, and prove that you are a company that rewards loyalty.:(

The way I understand is that your monthly allocation will first be used and after that it will carry on with what got rolled over.

I am not trying to be funny but that certainly is "unfair business practice"
The rollover should be used up first before the current kicks in.
I would like to see a statement from Vodacom in the Press to confirm your thinking.

Take it as confirmed.

Shall we drop roll-over? Would certainly resolve your problem with any "unfair business practices".

Or rather PM me your number and I'll ask that they remove any roll-over from your account. This will then resolve your problem without affecting any of the other million or so users who seem to be quite happy to get roll-over.

Have you ever thought that there is a contractual requirement to service the monthly allocation?

I'm also cofused, to be honest. Think we were in the same school. :)

Phone 155 and ask them to explain, they can look at your records (which I can't).

Let us know what they say and let's take it from there.

On a contract with a 2GB recurring bundle, *111# is only showing the balance of the new month's bundle, not the balance remaining from the previous month. Vodacom4me shows both balances.

*111# wait... 1 wait... 4:
You have 1.93GB available.

Hold on to your knickers V3G. I was not complaining about the rollover but just your interpretation of :
1. The rollover implentation
2. The way the rollover data would be used.

Firstly: Yesterday no rollover was reflected on my data account only my contract amount. Today(2nd) the rollover has been reflected.
So rollover has been allowed for contract customers!
Secondly: I cannot see how Vodacom will runnoff current month's data before the rollover data, as it is shown as a total amount on the account.

I feel that the Consumer Protection Act which has been signed into power will change the face of the way that consumers treated in future (Implementation in 18 months- but the lead in period will give companies a chance to voluntary correct any practices which will fall foul of the act.)

BTW: I think Vodacom still offers the best service, and democracy dictates that I can chirp if I wish to raise my disatisfaction about any matters which concern me.
And please no "Forum rage" here. It is not becomming of a member who represents their organization.:(

I think you should rather first ask how (and why) things are done before you start with

and other accusations when you clearly have not thought about it.

Rather, you seem to be the one who suffer from forum rage. Go read your posts again. You come out with guns blazing on two issues having already made up your mind about them without applying logic to either.

Both the points you so vehemently disagree with, have very logical reasons and conform 100% with all legal requirements. And actually are dictated by them. Including the CPA. As they should.

1) Products have a start date. And they start on that date. Not at some other 'nebulous' time. This is kinda ingrained in the fabric of space-time. This date was communicated from day 1.

2) Contractual obligations must first be honoured before any benefits or freebies kick in. This is a legal requirement.

Think a bit about it. And go and read your posts again and you'll see how confrontational and full of unfounded accusations they were.

I've been asking for years on this forum for forumites to ask anything they need to know and I'll try and answer. But when someone appoints themselves as judge, jury and executioner (on any subject, not just on VC) and have already decided on a 'guilty' verdict before posting, what then?

So let's recap:

- You're on contract which means that you get a new bundle every month on the 1st.
- On the 5th of April, Vodacom announces that from that day onward any new bundle purchased will last for two billing cycles (the so-called 'up to 60 days' roll-over).
- You only 'buy' your next bundle on the 1st of May, so that bundle will roll over. Not any bought before 5th of April.

- Furthermore, Vodacom signed a legal contract with you to provide you with said bundle on the 1st of every month, for the contract period. So this will happen every month for the period. Any 'perks' you get will be on top of this, including the roll-over of unused data. But the bundle must first be serviced.

My, my but you are quick to react without reading my posts through.
I said in my last post that Vodacom had rolled over my unused data on the 2/5/2009.
My April data was credited to my account on the 1/4/2009
Therefore the rollover was applied to the balance of my data purchased on contract on the 1/4/2009, prior to the 5/4/2009 announcement from Vodacom.
It may take you some time to work that out, but in any case thanks to Vodacom for fairly applying the rollover on data purchased on 1/4/2009.
Jeez man, chill out or can't you take being corrected.

082155 has escalated the early xmas present vodacom gave me

Hold on a minute. So it's actually only a carryover every 2nd month. Say I have a 1GB contract.

Usage will be as follows for example:
May 09 - 700MB
June 09 - 1300MB (I have to use everything up here because the 300MB from May only gets used up after using Junes data)
July 09 - 800MB (Used 800MB here. No carryover from June because I had to use Junes data up before using Mays)
August 09 - 1200MB (Have to use up 1GB before touching July's carryover of 200MB
September 09 - No carryover.....repeat process indefinitely

So carryover will only "benefit" us every 2nd month and in that month you'd be forced to use up all the data because nothing will be carried over!

Looks kind of silly to me. The carried over data should be used 1st or Vodacom must say carryover only every 2nd month for contract customers.

I made the call and now i regret it.

They have fixed it - it looked like they had doubled the carry over

Yup, I wouldn't call it rollover or carryover.

Pre-paid users don't really get rollover either, their bundles just expire after (up to) 60 days instead of 30 days.
