Based on what I have read it doesn't appear so.
I have a S3 - Cell C, received the software update message 3 days ago, did not want to update - so I selected "Later" option about three times, wanted to see what other user experience are, now the icon is gone - will have to see if I can update later

When you are ready you can do it manually under "About device"
So far no one I know has issues. The common feedback (not in all cases) is that the phone feels faster

Same here. After reading so many bad reviews 4.1.3 was getting on the S3 after it's initial release I'm quite reluctant. Is the release that's now available on local networks better/more stable than the one from last year?

I know right! Where the hell is it?? I have a Vodacom phone but nothing is coming on kies or OTA. I have contacted Samsung to do the direct update for me officially. Because Vodacom does not seem to know anything about firmware updates.

Well I took it to vodacom because it's much closer than Canal Walk. The bad thing is that I had to book it in. Maybe I'll get it tomorrow. They say 24 to 48 hours.
With the Samsung store, all I know is there is a walk-in samsung store in Canal Walk(Cape Town) and my sister took her tablet in because it was stuck on Ice cream Sandwich. They did it in a hour or so while she waited around. So there is no book in thing.
Oh and when I asked vodacom for a software update they said why and I said because my phone gets slow but I actually just wanna know which version they can update it to. And they said 4.3, so I said okay cause I don't want to be stuck on 4.1.2.

Update: Vodacom gave me my phone back. And I realised the firmware wasn't different. After I asked them what did they do, she told me the lcd was replaced. lol. So I apparently had screen problems. Bad news... I'm still on 4.1.2
