Vodacom slashes mobile data prices

Good points - 7x more expensive!

And 8ta has great speeds, just did a test on 8ta (HSDPA+)

I've got 3 questions for you.
1. Where do you stay?
2. What modem are you using?
3. How often do you get those speeds?

Vodacom should bring down the prepaid bundles. Let us pay R150 for the 2 gig

+1

I'd just like to request that myBroadband includes the word "promotion" in the article headings to indicate that these price reductions are for a limited period.

K4605 (E372), TL-WR1043ND, OpenWrt, LPDA11A, -69dBm, Jhb South - Linmeyer
The base stations are about 950m away - hence the LPDA11A,
I use both Cell-C and 8ta pre-paid (not at the same time)
Both give similar speeds 8-18Mb/s - mostly in the 8-12Mb/s range.
This test which I ran today (luck) was the highest recorded to date.
I ran a few more tests, and they were in 13-15Mb/s
8ta/Telkom have been installing some fibre in the area.

The issue is that VodaCom and MTN have failed to offer packages the compete with Cell-C & 8ta
If you have coverage, then Cell-C & 8ta are the answer.

This news does not help me at all..
it is only for new Contracts, and not existing ones, why cant they update the existing contracts to these pricing aswell - Currently paying R150 for 500Mb of data pm...

MyGig 1 – R69 per month (down from R89 per month)
MyGg 2 – R99 per month (down from R139 per month)
MyGig 3 – R169 per month (down from R189 per month)

2 gigs are cheaper per gig than one, but then why does it become more expensive again per gig the more you order

2 gig - 49.50 per gig
3 gig - 56.33 per gig

Isn't it supposed to become cheaper?

Would be nice if this applied to prepaid data bundle purchases.

Yes wouldn't it. We've been asking for more than 2 years. They always have some excuse like platforms not being compatible blah blah blah.

Prepaid is a huge license for them to print money. Why should they mess with a formula which works albeit obscenely for them?

So if you can't get 8ta you'll just have to, hand over your life savings to VC, drop your pants, bend over and grin and bear it.

I just want to be able to add these promos to my voice contract.

Very nice for anyone willing to sign a 24 month contract and who needs 3G+ speeds outside of Cell C and 8ta coverage areas. That and someone who can make sure they don't hit the OOB shark....

This may have to do with the fact that Vodacom matched MTN’s promotional prices on its 2GB package, but since MTN has no 3GB promotion Vodacom was not under pressure to slash their 3GB prices by the same percentage.

Vodacom likes to call itself a leader, but it's obvious they're simply following.

That's all part of Vodacom's network planning... they've looked at their data subscriber count and worked out what the best size data bundle is for the network conditions. The sweet spot is 2GB per user per month! So they offer that at the best price. If bigger data bundle contracts were cheaper, more people would use more mobile data, which will eventually lead to network congestion and performance degradation. With the huge subscriber base VC has, it's a compromise between profits and network performance... no use giving everyone 10GB for R199 if it kills your network! 8ta, on the other hand, has a much smaller subscriber base and an under utilised network, so it's in their best interest to offer cheap mobile data(until the subscriber base is large enough)!

i wish that was true but it is more about matching cellc as mtn as recently has done.

why cant you bolt-on one of these deals on your phone for the same price ?
