I have noticed of late, that SMSes are only delivered to my phone (Sony Z2) when I turn on my mobile data. e.g. I only turned on my mobile data at 10:12am today. Several FNB inContact SMSes as well as an SMS from the voicemail service were then delivered at that time.

Has anyone else noticed this? I have yet to do exhaustive testing on this but i have noticed it on 2 separate occasions now and I have been wondering why inContact SMSes have been delayed in recent weeks.

Do you have option to chose which network services SMS can use? It can be PS, CS or both. Change to both.
If it is PS, bug in firmware could cause such problem.

What's Ps and Cs? I have seen that setting somewhere for receiving Sms via the data channel before

This is the same as PS (packet switched). :)
Change it to CS ([-]carrier select[/-] circuit switched) - it could be also listed as GSM. Select 'both' option if present.

I had a look, I have no idea where to find this on my Sony Z2 (Android). Google tells me nothing.

Have no idea either...
Such option was present in earlier Sony phones.
