Vodacom to Mweb peering/ Affects on online gaming

Hi guys/gals,

Just wondering what vodacom has planned to do to sort out the peering issues it now has with mweb? If things stay as they are, COD black ops as well as all the other gaming servers that MWEB hosts are no longer avaliable locally to us :( As mweb has the sole rights to COD Black ops in sa i hope this is resoved ASAP.

One of the sole reasons i have a internet connection is to game.

Vodacomdata please shed some light on the subject

I'll be very dissapointed if this turns out to be a long term problem.

Thanks in advance

Will be sorted shortly.

In fact, Vodacom and MWEB have been working together, for a month or three, to get the link in place.

I see VB put out some more info on this: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/internet/16263-Vodacom-Business-keen-peer-with-MWEB.html

Some of the comments in that thread seems to suggest VB was not pro-active in getting peering link in. That is incorrect. I can confirm that both companies have been sorting out the details of the link for quite a while and I actually saw the relevant VB/MWEB chaps chatting about it at the MyBroadband conference two weeks ago.

Just as a heads-up; while it sounds simple to get a peering link in place, a fair amount of work must be done, both commercially and legally (think two large corporate's legal teams thrashing out an agreement!) and technically. Running a fiber and lighting it up takes time and can cost a cr@pload. Think 6 zeros just to build it.

But both companies are busy getting it sorted.

Will this mean cheaper or more expensive data costs to the VC user? :)

Thanks for the reply Jannie,

Great news indeed :) Looking forward to many hours of COD Black ops

I'll sort of agree about the legal aspects, but I guess it'd be easier if peering was based on a well-defined peering policy. Does Vodacom have a peering policy? I looked on peeringdb.com, but Vodacom hasn't bothered to list either AS 29975 or 36994.

As for the technical issues, since M-Web is at both JINX and CINX, it should be as setting up the BGP sessions.... Except that Vodacom isn't at either exchange.

Vodacom - Mweb

Hi guys

Id like to know if the two have already peer'd or not
Starting to get a bit frustrated from desyncing :/

Always feel good when Jannie is here!

Jannie, in between getting the peering sorted, I hope you're still keeping an eye on the Vodacom portal?

*I know you've got a lot on your plate, but just asking.
