Vodacom Tower location

You could look at the cell broadcast of the 2G cell. But the 3G cells might not map to the same tower.

How do I look at the cell broadcast of the 2G cell?

Why do you need to know?

I have bought and external antenna and it would help me if I knew where the tower is.

An option would be to use a signal strength meter application, like [searchforum]ginggs' application[/searchforum] if you have either a Huawei E220 or E620, otherwise try sending the signal strength AT sequence directly to the modem from [e.g.] Telnet in Windoze.

Thanks for the help ic; but I'm trying to work out which tower I'm using and where it is located and not the signal strenght.

It should show up on your cellphone under Vodacom. If it doesn't look under network settings for something like cell info display and activate it.

Your external antenna probably isn't too directive in that you have to point it like shooting a target with a gun. Also, the tower you pick up inside your house could be different from the best tower your antenna can receive.

You could get on the roof with a phone that can display tower info (only GSM towers as v3g has stated) and see what it says. Otherwise just rotate your antenna in increments of 20 degrees, wait at least 60 seconds for the device to lock onto the strongest tower and check the signal. Then repeat.

Sure, but it does help if you have line of sight to the Tower. If I know where the tower is I can make sure that there is no trees or other things in the way.

If I have the towers's sell id would it be possible to get the GPS coordinates?

Does anyone know which HS service the Century City (WC) area? We have a client that needs to put up a directional antenna for LTE services in Century City.

There is a website you can use to check. Check the rain lte forum for that link.
