Vodacom upgrade fees...

What fees do you pay when you take out a new contract? [i.e Activation Fee] , isn't that LESS than R150 ?

My Voda contract is coming up for an upgrade in the next 2 months too, if they have that R150 thing, then i'll probably cancel the contract and take a new contract + port the number [even though i don't need it, as it was for data usage] to the SAME SP just to make a point....

Oh browsed some Vodacom Specials this weekend and noticed all of them had the "on initial contract" clause. What does that mean? Does it mean you can't upgrade with those specials ...if so..wth ?

Yeah, most deals are for "new lines" only. I haven't tried this yet, but I am thinking when my contract expires to just port to the other network. Then, according to their view, I will be requesting a new line and therefore I will be eligible for the "new line" deals.
Then 2 years later, port back to the original network who, by then, have "forgotten" that I was a customer so my line will be "new" again.

Search Hellopeter for Vodacom and you will quickly realise there is an elusive retention department.

Then post on HelloPeter to ask why the deal is only for new subscribers and you as a old timer want to leave...

I queried this with VodacomSP and Vodacom themselves via their customer care email and this is the response

Kindly be advised that the charge of R150.00 is in no way an attempt to show disregard for your loyalty to our organization over the years. The charge, is an administration fee for the Upgrade as there is alot of work that takes place behind the scenes when a task of this nature is undertaken Should you have any further queries, please contact us via e-mail at [email protected].

So you see, its a fee for all the behind the scenes work

It could be cheaper to change service providers than to upgrade. Thanks for MNP!

Yup, did not renew my contract, considering my options.

You could probably even just port to prepaid for a month and then port back again.
