Vodacom vs MTN - fastest network for smartphones

I kind of agree with MTN :/

I don't find an issue with Vodacom performance, but this is very valid :

MTN said that Vodacom cannot claim to “outperform all competitors in all areas at all times”, and therefore cannot claim to have the best network.

Seconded

Did the recent MyBB article on LTE not show that Telkom Mobile had the best download rate and Vodacom the best upload rate?

And I agree with MTN (as per Dolby's post).

ASA messed up here.

I have been with MTN for 2 years and switched over to Vodacom beginning of this year. There is no question that Vodacom's network is superior to MTN's. And any other network for that matter. Ruling justified.

Do you mean "in your specific case", or do you speak on behalf of the entire country, including me, becase in my case, MTN's network is clearly superior to Vodacom's.

I have to agree, in my experience, MTN has always been better and faster. I will take the challenge every day. :)

I guess it all comes down to personal experience. When C launched Whoosh, the speeds I was getting in Primrose were incredible. Then they installed a tower at Van Buuren and it plummeted. My Eden Centre office had incredible MTN throughput - near the limit. At my chick's place, Telkom used to be tops but now MTN outperforms.

I cannot remember EVER getting good speed out of Vodacom. BUT, when I get only EDGE connections (outlying areas) VC performs best.

Pretty much. I think ASA should just do a blanket ban on all "best network"/"fastest network" type claims. If you have even a rudimentary knowledge about the industry you'll know it's e meaningless, impossible to substantiate claim.

I can't remember cars advertising "the best vehicle" claims? Hilux could probably say "the most reliable bakkie" and back it up with facts, and I'd be more than happy for Vodacom to claim "Pofadder's fastest mobile network" because that's probably quantifiable.

Totally agree.... How the hell does the ASA conclude that they are the best network when relying on 3rd party test results?

I think both MTN and Vodacom has good networks and thus both can claim "One of the best networks for smartphones"

I am shocked the ASA agrees that Vodacom has the best network. I don't think any mobile operator can make such a claim.

Sounds like Vodacom got some friends within ASA :D

I don't know....but I do know for a fact that Telkom Mobile has the fastest network in my suburb....BY FAR - I have tested them all.

Vodacom never claimed that. MTN just made it up at the hearing.
