MTN's prepaid data is slightly cheaper than Vodacom's, particularly for one-day data bundles, a MyBroadband analysis has shown.

I just find it stupid that you can get LTE at home for somewhat uncapped at like R699 but if you are on prepaid it's around R39 a gig. Clocked 1.2TB off the Supersonic LTE for R999 but spread my checks when traveling due to prepaid costs.

Its not the amount of data downloaded that is the problem for networks. Its the number of folks connected to the tower at any one time. Subscriptions allow for network planning in this respect, so they can be cheaper. You need some way of keeping the millions of 1GB per month customers off the towers. High prices per GB is one way to do that.

Oh yeah I 100% understand that. A user who has 50Gb of data can do more damage and incur more costs to the cell providers if they move around vs a user in a static location.

But my point is that myself (and I believe others) would easily take an MTN monthly data subscription for my phone and work stuff while I travel if it wasn't for their absurd prices on mobile. Even at a capped speed like 10 or 20 Mbps, I would take it. Rain just doesn't work and MTN seems to be the only cell provider that doesn't kak the bed when I move around.

Plus I find all the "WiFi" spots to be terrible at all the local airports. If you have any recommendations when travelling I'm all for suggestions, as I need to keep 4 devices and a laptop connected while travelling around ZA.

Don't have prepaid right now and my two sims in the phone are MTN and Vodacom. Should have 20GB to use on Vodacom until the 31st, but their signal/speed is nearly unusable.

Airport wifi systems suck, could never get them to work.
