Vodacom WiMax here early 2008

Nice, if this comes out we can all cancel our Telkom landlines. :D I wonder when we'll get information on costs and coverage etc?
 
To alleviate this pressure the company is investing in its own fiber network, something Vodacom says is progressing well.

lets all jump on the WiMAX wagon...
BTW neotel already has fiber up to 1GB/s, I might be speaking under correction!
 
It all hinges on how much they are going to oversubscribe those Wimax towers of theirs...
 
Hopefully Vodacom won't charge "air rental" like Telkom Wimax, so we should see some competition then.
 
Shows that vodacom's investment in iburst is just for the access to wimax. Funny, not neotel to the rescue, but telkoms own creation... ironic.
 
It also just shows how stupid ICASA is, why not just grant Vodacom a WiMax licence rather than forcing them to go through WBS?

Just shows it's easier to buy wimax license than to get one from government. Personally I think it's a good sign, at least we know vodacom will be aggressive enough to actually just go around the slow process of ICASA and get on with the job without having to wait.
 
whats the point, they will probably still be expensive and impose ridiculously low caps.
 
This "ADSL replacement" technology better have comparable latency to an ADSL connection and not unreliable as hell latency like HSDPA.

True, Vodacom do seem to get things done which is a nice change for SA telecoms. :)

Points for concern, YES!

Whatever happened with the MWEB Trials? Or have I just been away for too long.

Anyway if they are talking about a few hundred base stations - it should hopefully do - but aai tog - I'm not so comfortable with Wireless Technology in this place - if Iburst is anything to go by - I'm not touching it with a barge pole.

For quite a few months, I've been wanting to cancel my HomeDSL313.6kbits/s line and replace it with WiMax, and while the only WiMax that is allegedly commercially available - in my area, is from Telkodemonopolies, the monopolistic beast refuses to let me have 'up to 512kbits/s' WiMax for ~R20 less than what I pay for HomeDSL, otherwise my ADSL line would be toast by now.

Poison Ivy decreed that Vodacom was not allowed to have a WiMax licence of its own - no doubt bcos Poison Ivy & Stalin-Mafole don't believe that Vodacom 'looks like them' :rolleyes:.

What is Sentech doing with its WiMax spectrum other than being an obstruction to a more worthy company?

As further proof of the fact that !CASA is not independent from the Dementia of Communistications, why is it that Poison Ivy gets to allocate WiMax spectrum when that is !CASA's job alone?

The only reason they could have is that they want to force people to have analogue lines, I'm actually surprised they didn't make it a requirement to get Wimax. :rolleyes:

Well the way my latency on unshaped ADSL has been (1000ms) to the states... anything can be comparable.
