Vodacom WiMax

Let me hazard a guess. The iBust pricing we saw a while ago is a good benchmark for what this will cost.

Vodacom3g, do you have any details you can give away without losing your job? :)

We wont see any good pricing until Seacom has landed.

We won't see any good pricing after Seacom has landed either.

A long time ago when customers complained about the high cost of bandwidth everybody pointed their fingers at Sat3. Sat3 was the root of all evil.

Now when you mention Seacom the finger gets pointed at leased lines. "We cannot drop our prices because our infrastructure is too expensive..."

All the big players are laying their own fiber now. Once that is in place where are you going to point your fingers? Licensing fees? Operational Costs? Rent for High Sites? Electricity prices? The list goes on.

Rabbit, the only thing we can do is stock up on more Vaseline. :(

I agree with you on this. They always have an excuse on hand...

You're right we're only going to see significant decreases in charges when there is enough competition in local AND international bandwidth. Thank Moses it finally *seems* like this is going to happen within our lifetimes!

Good pricing or not - why don't I see the numbers?
WiMax articles are building false hope....

I'd have to disagree with you there (at least for now). I know from very good sources (and my company being in the ISP and Telecoms industry) that we will see very good pricing from SEACOM, as they have partnered with NEOTEL to provide infrastructure to the rest of the country. This is , of course , at wholesale (or less) pricing structures, but the proof will be in the pudding when they arrive....

time will tell . I will keep my ears close to the fibre sleeves :)

Anybody have a link to page on VC site with more info, or even a coverage map?
"Western Cape" is not specific enough for hilly Cape Town...
