Vodafone MC950D drivers for Windows 7

Has anyone had any success finding a driver that works with Windows 7.
Or would it be possible to run this modem in VM mode XP on a machine running Windows 7 Professional?
How does one do this?

The MC950D has VMC 3.2.1.156 on it, which works with Windows 7(Or at least it should).

Otherwise download VMC 9.4 from Vodacom's Website and install it on Windows 7. The drivers for the MC950D should be included.
 
VMC 9.4 was made for Windows 7. It has all the Windows 7 drivers included for all Vodafone 3G modems.
 
On Wednesday i installed an E220 with VMC 3.2.1.156 on Windows 7, installed and worked without any trouble. So i dont see why the MC950D shouldn't work.

I will try VMC 9.4.
I have tried everything else and have even been to the Vodacare Data at Eastgate who informed me that the MC950D is not supported by Vodacom on Windows 7. All the Huawei modems are apparently supported.
So I don't know if VC is trying to starve the MC950D to death!:mad:

Found a fix Google FTW

I found a fix to the problem with Windows 7.

1. Install the software from the Novatel MC950D key (automatic installer).

2. Reboot.

3. Install the driver from the manufacturer’s website. http://www.novatelwireless.com – NvtlDriver_V2.01.07MSI.zip

4. Reboot.

5. Install MLGeneric_v2.02.37.006.zip (google the file or go to http://www.zadako.sk/download/novatel/?C=M;O=D )

(i dont know this software but its worth a try am downloading it now to test the VMC 9.4 should work after this ...VCD )

6. Reboot.

It should be working perfectly now!


EDIT: Point number 5 is the mobilink software.

The E220 is made by Huawei and the MC950D is made by Novatel. Could be a reason ..., but hey, you're the techie aren't you? :D

Same brand of Software, same brand of drivers. Manufacturer shouldnt make a difference. But hey, what do i know right?

Isnt the drivers the same for the Vodafone branded devices?

Meaning, if i had a MC950D with VMCLite 3.2.1.156 and i just install VMC 9.4, i could install and use the MC950D on the machine without having to install VMCLite 3.2.1.156?

Or am i wrong...

Windows drivers normally come from the device manufacturer.

Last time I looked at Vodafone Mobile Connect (full fat, not the lite version), it installed a folder with all the manufacturers' drivers for all the supported devices.

In other words, installing VMCLite 3.2.1.156 (on the MC950D) or VMC 9.4, yields the same results.

Which is what i said in Post #3.

Are you confirming this? Did you try on Windows 7 64-bit or 32-bit?

Not with the MC950D, havent had one to install on Windows 7.

But all the other devices i've used (E220, K3565, K3715, K3520) all work with their respective software on Windows 7 and with VMC 9.4.

I had one guy with Windows 7 64-bit having trouble to install a modem(cant remember which one). I installed VMC 9.4, plugged in the modem and it worked. It was one of the newer ones.

OK.
I was in at Vodacare Gateway, this morning and I took my Lappie along for the ride.
The Techie told me that they had received little feedback from HQ re the drivers for the MC 950 D modems.
He installed VMC 9.4 and Hey Presto!
What an improvement this piece of software is.

Now if VC can just make some reference to Windows 7 as well as including the MC 950 D in the downloads, the issue would be less confusing to us mere mortals, with limited IT savvy.

But thanks guys, and now play nicely!

VodacomData please ask VC to update their Download Site
