Yeah I'm lucky enough to live in one of the best places to see it.
I took this one recently in our town:
And this one through my bedroom window. A whole new level of laziness.
For those like oclerouxenator who wanted to see the more "everyday" side of life, here's some stuff.
The GF's town has a proper ski slope right in the middle of it. It's bizarre that people don't even notice it anymore...and you can ski on it until May/June. (Proper summer where the sun doesn't even set anymore.)
People here work differently too. At the local "checkers" for example, you don't get till workers who sit there and wait. There'll be maybe 1 person and if the queue gets too long they'll radio for help to open another till. Also no bag packers. You do it yourself. Here's a pic of what the till looks like. They have this tray that they fold from side to side to separate the "bagging" area into 2 sections and moves all the items across with it, so while you pack your stuff, the next person's stuff is already being scanned and ready for packing.
We also HAVE to use "piggdekk" during winter times because of snow and ice on the road. If you drive around with summer tyres you can get fined...similarly if you drive around places like Oslo after 1st of May with piggdekk on you get a fine for EACH studd in your tyres. :/

Reason I ask is that my daughter is getting married next year, and they want to "See the Northern lights" for their honeymoon. So any travel tips etc you can pass my way, please do so. (Estimated costs of accommodation etc).
This is a bit of a contentious issue. It all depends on solar activity. We can go weeks without activity and then suddenly a bunch of nights in a row. Then of course if it's cloudy you don't get to see anything.
So I would recommend going somewhere which has appeal for more than just northern lights, and in the event that you do get to see it, it's a bonus.
Also bear in mind that between May and September it's permanently light outside, with the sun being directly visible 24hrs a day between June and July, so no chance of aurora then.
I'd suggest they look at going to the Lofoten islands (an hour south of me, but part of the same island range). It's a beautiful place and a perfect mix of northern ligths and mountains and sea etc. Google it to have a look at places like Svolvær and Reine if that's what they're into. Further north is a city called Tromsø which is also nice and has great sights for northern lights etc.
The best time for that would be between November and February. (Full of snow, but you don't see direct sunlight for 2 months.)

OH! I almost forgot... the Hurtigruten (national cruise ship consort) has/had a special where they would either refund you or give you another ticket for free if you didn't get to see the northen lights during their cruises, that's how confident they are of it being present during a specific time of year.

They have ships going from Bergen all along the coast and in and out of fjords up to the top of Norway and back. There's one that passes my office every day at 1pm.

So I got myself a dashcam and decided to record the usual drive to work. It looks horrible and brown now that all the snow's gone and it's still raining. I should really do this again when the snow comes back.

1min03 is the dumbest rule they have here.
When on a non-main road, you have to yield to anyone coming from the right, even if he's in a side street and you're going straight. The result is you have to slow down at every damn street just in case.
Worst is if someone is coming from the opposite side of me and wants to turn into that road, he has to wait for me, I have to wait for the audi and the audi has to wait for him...infinite loop of confused norwegians.

I made a timelapse of the 3hr drive from my place to miss Voicy's this afternoon. Kinda shows why the speed limit is 80 on the open road.

I took these two pics at 00:04am today. The "midnight" sun is out in full force right now. It hasn't been dark since the end of April.

Does your house have dark blinds or blackout curtains? When I lived in Alaska we had dark green pull down blinds on all the windows.
I wanted to plan my next trip with the hopes of seeing the northern lights but there seems to be conflicting reports that from next year they may be very difficult to see. How often do you get to see the northern lights?
