Voicy does Norway

Is it true Aurora's make a low hissing noise?

I don't know but I'm sure Voicy will tell us. :)

It's a definite folklore and has gained some scientific interest as well which is (was) being studied in Finland. I've experienced some hectic auroras and even coronas right above me but have never heard anything so I don't know if the myth holds much water.

Wow! That was a quick response. Thank you. :)

So it started snowing again. My colleague drove his VW Crafter up to this station on Friday, no snow. Today it had 30cm long ice stalagmites growing off it.

Driving on snow and ice also takes a bit of getting used to. You can actually travel quite fast on a snowed over road without issue. It's the black ice that gets you.

Technically it's called stalactites.

From School I remember the difference because tits hang :D

^ yikes. :erm:

How are you coping with the cold?

+1

I think Thermal clothing only helps so much :D

Nah the only thing that gets to me is the wind. If it's not windy outside, I often just put my jacket in the bakkie and walk around with my Jeans and T-Shirt. I've received some stares, I'll admit.

So anyway, the snow storm cleared and I was met by this view this morning:

I got my snowcat license for this beast in Feb. An absolute necessity to be able to get up here.

Our station test last night til 4am went smoothly so at least this place now has a proper generator running it through winter when it's damn near impossible to come here to fix stuff.

Awesome stuff. This thread just caught my eye.

I did the train/fjord tour this weekend- Oslo->Bergen via Flam. Beautiful.

Followed that up with a drive down to Stavenger (just saw the R40k license conversion  - Luckily I'm on an EU/UK license now), for a walk up The Pulpit / Preikestolen.

Flam: [me on the pier ;)]

I was the same :) Locals look at me like I'm nuts, even though it wasn't nearly as cold as I'm sure it is where you need a damn snowcat to get around.

I also struggle with the change in temperature going from the cold outside to the over heated inside. Again, locals seem OK to wear jackets etc indoors, where I have to get my jacket off as soon as I come in. Certain things I guess you just learn to live with over time...
