I use Vobi from Vox for calls and most times the audio is just bad. Even when I'm on a 1GBps connection, the call quality is just crappy. I've also tried Telephone (on iOS & macOS) but the quality doesn't seem to improve. I use the default codecs on the Vobi app & have also gone through the different available codes to no avail. Are there specific codecs I can use or softphones I can use that are paid for that can give me audio quality comparable to WhatsApp, FaceTime or any other app based VoIP solution without the quality degradation? Open to suggestions.

The codecs are in that order of priority in the Vobi app.

Find out from VOX what their server's codec priority order is, as the server and client will negotiate, and generally the server will win.

So if you have G729A as 3rd and they have it as 1st then you will use G729A as the selected codec.
