I have an ADSL line.

I have an FNB Connect/Talk account (087 number).

I would like a cordless VOIP phone for my 087 number. The phone's receiver must be able to plug directly into the ADSL router, so must not connect to my computer.

I would like to purchase the phone cash and not pay any monthly fees.

Is this possible?

What is the best solution?

Look at one of the phones in the Siemens Gigaset range. Something like the S685IP or C470IP (C475IP has a built-in answering machine). That's if I understood the question correctly and you'd like an analogue and IP line connected to the phone at the same time.

You have a few options :

1) ADSL Router that supports VOIP and has voip telephone points on it already like Billion
Then you just plug in a DECT handset configure the sip extension

2) A SIP Cordless handset (starts from about R1300)
plug the base station to your network/adsl configure the sip settings on SIP handset.

3) Purchase an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) costs start from (R300 or so for ATA)
plug into network then plug in normal DEC handset to the phone port on the ATA, configure the SIP settings on the ATA

Cheaper if you want a traditional looking desk phone and not cordless.

Thanks so much for all the answers so far. I will probably purchase the lowest cost handset between the Snom and the Siemens options. FNB Connect have told me that they will help me configure it for the 087 number.

If you are a home user and in need of a free pure P2P voip provider solution see http://www.rapidaccess.co.za/sip.html
You can use any sip device i.e. ATA adaptor, Cell phone with built-in sip client or any Sip softphone.
I found that most Nokia E series phones works without a problem. You can even specify your Cell phone number as an alias for
people to get hold of you. If you are using a softphone on your pc, you can specify your home number as an alias number.

Create a free account and make use of this free service.
Remember this is only a P2P service and does not allow calls to PSTN.
