Is the voice quality on VOIP as good as with a landline? Good enough to justify moving from landline to VOIP? I have a 20/20 FTTH and fine the voice quality on VOIP very poor a lot of the time, so considering moving back to a landline.

A more detailed description of your setup would help.

I have VOIP at home and have no issues.

Depends on codec, mics and net quality on both ends. Better than landline imho.

thanks for the responses. I am using my iPhone with a Zoiper based app. I had used Zoiper itself on another network but found it chewed my battery. I have been thing about using a VOIP handset instead of the iPhone app, would that make a difference, do you think?

I use a phone I bought at Makro for R99. Plugs directly into the fibre termination box. With a splitter, I can use my old telkom phone as well.

No discernible difference for us at home. Using Freshphone with a Grandstream HT-801 and our old analogue handset over fibre.

Same here. Fresh phone, Grandstream and a Bell Air cordless. Not happy with the earpieces volume but it works. May just get a different cordless in the future

Very strange, they have audio codec selection/wiki for android and windows, but not ios:
Ask if you can borrow someone's android phone, Android 5 or above, and install app and see if you can select Opus, check what the quality is like.

Yes it would.

Hi Johnatan56. I tried Zoiper on both Android and iPhone, same issues (about 6 months ago). My ISP is selling cordless VOIP phones for about R1785 (with base station), corded phones for about 1000. Seems like a VOIP phone, cordless or not, is the way to go.

Ideas on how to get my VOIP POE corded handset to turn on? My router does not have POE; I cant seem to find a suitable power supply for the VOIP phone; the POE injector I tried didnt do anything also and I really dont want to purchase a 5 port Gigabit desktop POE switch just to supply power to this VOIP phone.

Lots of injectors are 12 and 24V which will not work so make sure you get a 48V / 802.3af injector. What phone as maybe getting a power supply is simpler?
