VOLTE suddenly appearing on Telkom Mobile

Last night I noticed that VOLTE was suddenly appearing on My S10 on the TM network.

Have TM activated this?
Assuming they may have expedited this due to the loadshedding issues with normal calls?

I see VOLWIFI also seems to work when turned on.

Anyone else also see this?

Been rolling out the last month or so. Unlinked to loadshedding
 
I've had it enabled on my phone for a long time now, no difference noted, except when I turn it on it says "Carrier not certified blah blah blah"
 
Well, restarted my Vodacom phone this morning and suddenly for the first time VOLTE icon has appeared.
 
Indeed working on my a8 2018 also!

Hopefully increases battery life as I am wifi most of the day.
 
Just made a volte call. Can confirm it's working on Telkom Mobile and the call quality is significantly better. What I want to know is - does it attract any additional fees and will it use my free minutes as per a normal voice call?
 
No additional cost and works as a normal call. Out of interest why would it improve battery?
 
No extra fees but I've had a large number of dropped or unable to connect calls with VoLTE enabled, I turned it off eventually as it was too unstable where I am.

Your minutes and data all work as normal, it actually allows Telkom to start removing older 2G/3G tech, so VoLTE calls are the same as any other, just THEY route it over their LTE mediums,

Interesting. I've also had some dropped calls. Wonder if it's related. I'm in a strong signal area

Yah, don't think its a signal issue as strong here as well, maybe theres a piece of kit thats required and one of the hops is broadcasting VoLTE support but a downstream node doesn't have it. It's new, so will expect bugs for a while.

On Vowifi networks switches off I think , currently my phone has 0 Signal when its connected to Vowifi. It saves battery not being connected to any towers.

That's super interesting. I didn't notice when I tried because no one could hear me anyway. Surely network can't switch off because of sms? Or is that also over wifi

The whole network runs over wifi even sms, it's pretty awesome. This allow you make calls and sms anywhere in world where you have wifi

I'll test again a bit later. Can you screenshot the switched off network?

Noticed this was turned on for our area yesterday and I am so grateful for it! Our area has crap coverage and anyone that would try to call would get a message saying that the number does not exist and the phone would show "Emergency Only" or "Not registered on network"

Now with this enabled I can make and receive calls anywhere in the house. I can stop with my Telkom massacre of cancelling contracts and porting to MTN
 
It's new for Telkom yes.
Good to see there is a plan ro keep improving service.
I haven't used it long enough to comment on difference yet, Makro call centre was still useless even with VoLTE
 
Ooooh, I've got the VoLTE icon showing.

For those with Redmi devices. Dial *#*#VOLTE#*#*. It will show a popup that the VoLTE carrier check has been disabled. :thumbsup:

Similarly for VoWiFi, dial *#*#VOWIFI#*#*. However, even though the VoWiFi has been activated, there's no icon indicated that it's active - so not sure if VoLTE and VoWiFi can not be on at the same time. I'll have to play around.

There you no network signal using Vowifi.

VoWifi also seems to be active on Android.
Nothing appearing on iOS
