They have to prove whatever the fk they wrote into the legal wording of their warranty agreement. And if they have a lawyer and an accountant on hand they'll quickly realise that:
1) Nobody reads the fkin 50 page agreement
2) Writing as broad a clause as possible gives them max savings potential
3) Writing as broad a clause as possible gives them minimum legal exposure
They might not actually enforce it (for the sake of customer goodwill), but I'd be very surprised if installing 1 custom item doesn't void the entire warranty (if applying the warranty wording in an.al fashion).
I sure as hell would write the agreement that way...

Volvo advises against fitting sound system
It is generally written exactly like that.
But I think over the years they’ve had enough serious contesters to the facts and lost so many times that they simply don’t go there any more.
They might threaten it sure and need a bit of a push but won’t resist too long.
These days even outside warranty periods they don’t take too many chances if it looks like a factory fault across a number of vehicles.
In America you can go even one further and service your own vehicles. As long as you can prove the parts were to spec and work done accordingly they have to honour the warranty.
Know of a few people who do this and take pictures every step of the way with log books and everything.
It is generally written exactly like that.

haha nope. It's not about their willingness to go there.
Nobody contests anything when presented with a stern look and a 50 page document that they signed.
And the 1% that is crazy enough to contest it anyway despite being shown they're wrong black on white you simply tell "oh sorry we made a mistake"...and cover their bloody fender bender.
Minimises hassle. Minimises cost.

Well, I must be part of that 1%. I'm fair, but I will go to war if they try and **** me over with small print. Especially when it is in conflict with the CPA.

It’s what happens when you have to spend winters inside.
I’ve also personally done numerous warranty claims over time with modifications in place and never had an issue.
In fact my BMW is going in on Monday for a massive one and I still plan to fit the new risers this weekend without a worry.

If you can’t understand the basic premise of the differences in statements here then I honestly can’t help you.
Not once did I say your entire warranty is void, quite the contrary.
And nothing has changed in that regard.
But you’ll read what you want to read into everything, so enjoy yourself.

Thank you OP for this thread I also wanted to change the radio in my car, Honda told me I will loss the warranty If I want to change the head unit. Honda can do it for me they want R12 999 excluding labour.
Exactly. My friend's car inside burned a couple of months after he installed his loud sound system into the car. Took it to VW and they tried to shift the blame to the sound installation. After a proper investagation, they found out that it had nothing to do with the sound being installed by him.
