Volvo experiences

You will probably will have to keep it for longer than 3 years, volvo for life!

Looks good, just hope nothing breaks on it :p

I've never driven one and actually don't really know anyone who has either - Wondering if it would be silly to go for this car or maybe get something a little more modest... but it is a beautiful car though IMO

Only silly thing about it is, that stuff might go wrong, then it's not cheap fix it and they loose value really quickly :(

If I was looking for a sedan I would go for lexus GS350 2013+ ( heavy fuel consumption, but bulletproof engine) or BMW 330D F30, but they hard find decent one as they quite high demand.

Thanks for your advice, definitely giving me something to think about - but my counter to your point is; say I went for a Lexus or Beemer, wouldn't parts be just as expensive if things went wrong? I know BM's out of warranty are expensive.

If they do go wrong yeah, probably won't be cheap.

Through they have proven them-self to be really good the lexus and 330D . There is plenty of mechanics working on toyota's/lexus and bmw's not so many on volvo.

You always want to try and get car that you don't need much assistance from the dealership with, that's when it gets expensive.

The most expensive parts on the car is the motor and gearbox, the lexus and 330D has a really good track record with it both these. Volvo uses a toyota gearbox(Aisin) so that should be good on it also, just the engine that I am worried about.

Danke danke - will broaden my search, didn't really even consider a BMW; I thought it'd be out of my price range.

One more thing is the 320D is also worth looking at?

Yes just as good, both really good diesel engines. 330d will push you back in your seat more though, but also eat tyres more quickly

Oh ya you also need be ready for exepensive tyres with the bmw as they use runflats. Lexus is normal tyres, not sure of the volvo.

Pity Volvo SA does not seem to bring in the V60 cross country anymore - really liking it. I love the idea of an estate vs suv.

Definitely yay. Properly smart car, good spec, good build, good ride.

Just note resale value will drop even more.

Not too phased about re-sale value, just keen on driving something reliable and nice for a while. As I think it's already quite cheap - only 220K

With 85k on clock it would've just had a service and will have 1 more at 100k (depending on age and plan). The Drive-E engines and gearboxes are decent but there is a big service in your near future (R15-R25k) at about 120 000 km

Definitely something to think about. That's pretty steep

Those spark plugs made of gold at that price? :P
