Johannesburg - South Africans must exercise their right to vote in honour of the equality for which former president Nelson Mandela fought, President Jacob Zuma said on Tuesday.

"As we start the new year, let us also remember one of the pivotal rights we gained in 1994, which Tata Madiba could only exercise for the first time in his 70s: the right to vote," he said in his new year's message.

He called on those who had not yet registered for the 2014 elections to do so.

Zuma said life had improved for millions since 1994, but some people were still waiting.

"Therefore, our work is not yet completed."

Mandela died in his home in Houghton, Johannesburg, on 5 December, at the age of 95.

The sixth democratic general elections will be held in 2014.

Wonder if he refers to Nkandla when he said our work is not yet completed?

I must admit he wasn't pushing for ANC votes, but mainly that all South Africans do vote.

If state money was used for Nkandla he should f-off, off the premises as soon as his term is over.

If everyone had to vote in accordance with Madiba's memory and desires the closest party would be the DA.
The ANC is a communist corrupt self enrichment scheme.

Lolz according to you maybe but not the vast majority of south africans.

Does the clown ever shut up?
45 million clones will keep voting for the azzhole.

I fail to see how anybody can be surprised at this, everyone knew quite some time back, that this card was going to be played.

a very stupid move on his part because there is always that little quote from Mandela:
“If the ANC does to you what the Apartheid government did to you, then you must do to the ANC what you did to the Apartheid government.”

Zuma cannot have people outside the "third column" (to use Blade's language) asking questions as to the comparison. Look at what is happening with large unions. When it isn't just media commentators saying this sort of thing Zuma costs the ANC 20% of the vote.
