Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Are these issues mainly in the Cape region? I haven't had any issues in KZN. Excellent product, thanks cvanwie.

Your statements were quite valid though except for the part about them wanting to get rid of customers.
I have also noticed a clear degradation in the line quality since the launch of the specials.
But with all that being said, me experience with VOX over the years has always been perfect.

I'm one of those "newly signed ups", although I am having some issues in the evening, at least I can play online when I get home. This was impossible with my previous ISP. Also, with my previous ISP , if their were more than 55 000 players logged onto the game, I could forget playing, no matter what day or time. With VOX, the servers can have 100K + players on, I can connect and play. Thats a win for me.

[Edit: I am in Cape Town]

I quickly tested this morning using the online speed test tools and it looked LOTS better:
8ms ping
2000kb/s (my full vdsl line speed)

My own ping tests showed about 25ms to local servers while other ISP's might do 11ms... but thats ok.

I will test again tonight.

I've found things are perfect during the day - after hours they seem to degrade a bit. (for my usage, which is mainly downloading/streaming/browsing I say a bit, but I checked latencies last night and experienced the same issues others have already reported - glad I don't game online anymore)

Mornings,

Almost perfect speedtest this morning.

Lets see whats gonna happen tonight. I hope the same as above.

The issues that we found, which we are now investigating with Telkom, are mostly on the outskirts of Cape Town as opposed to in the center of Cape Town.

The latency through the traceroutes start at Telkom infrastructure, then off to ours and the latency continues obviously. For those technical, the upload vlan from exchange to Telkom is where we've seen some congestion.

This is above the initial issues that we resolved on the 9th @ 2am, and then additional changes on the routers which should make things better going forward as well.

Lately international gaming has been tricky.

This is supposed to be an unshaped account, but the ping only settled after 11:30PM.

Omg, nice speed test! I would upgrade to 40mbps but the line rental is very expensive!

I was fortunate to be in one the first areas in CPT to get 40Mbps. Can't see myself going down in speed anytime soon.

+1!!!

Anyway, should have fibre before the end of the year!!! 100mb/50mb!!! I pray!!!! :o

I also would like to go to 100Mbps now, but we don't have fibre on the curb yet. Frustrating to know that not far from where I live one can get fibre. But with that said, I can't complain, 40Mbps does work well.

Unfortunately with VDSL you need to win the lottery in this country. Not only does Telkom have to roll it out in your neighbourhood - if you're not within 900m of the exchange you're connected to, you can't get 40mbps. Fibre is also really frustrating. All of the providers are obviously just focusing on the affluent areas at the moment. On Telkom's coverage map, I'm literally 2 blocks away from coverage.

If a network element is congested on our network or supplier, regardless if it's unshaped there's only so much you push down a pipe, right?

Unshaped does not mean prioritized.
