Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Sent the below last night to cvanwie, but no reply yet, thought I would post on here to see if anyone else having same problem

Latency issues Cape Town (southern suburbs)

Hi

I have been having a problem where every night between 18:00 and 00:00 I experience terrible pings (anywhere from 100 to 500) mostly in the 200's

This has been happening for last two or three weeks.

My line speed has also been crappy compared to what it is during the day.

I just put it down to congested exchange, but after finding out my neighbours in my block of flats are not experiencing any problems with their 10meg lines, I decided to test some other ISP accounts.

Tested a Telkom capped account, Afrihost capped account, and a web africa capped account and they all gave me pings of between 18 and 32.

This is happening on both my VOX fatpipe accounts

When I first signed up to VOX (because afrihost was becoming unbearable) I was constantly getting 18 ping and 8.5 line speed.

Please help get my accounts back to the way they were when I signed up.

Thanks so much!

Remove the account IDs I don't understand why you posted it in the public domain. Also post data, what you posted is next to useless wrt actually fixing it.

I'm also from the south (Fairways) and sent him the traceroutes last night and posted speed tests here, no response as yet... He has passed it up the line, but as usual it stops there. They make him look bad.

Mine was around 200 - 220ms if i remember correctly, in Diablo3. Yours?

Honestly, 200-220 from CPT to the UK, really isn't bad at all.

I just ran a test from JHB (at the Vox office) to the Diablo 3 gaming servers (12.129.248.117) and the transit is fantastic across our network until it is handed off internal to Level 3:

I highlighted our network and what we can manage in green, anything else, is out of our control. If another ISP routes differently, you will see different results every time.

From our office in JHB, my latency and yours isn't that far off.

You will notice a double route highlighted in red, and where the problem starts in the USA.

I hope this helps.

You can also use http://us-looking-glass.battle.net/ to check a few things, keep in mind they don't show a full trace; only the firs

I haven't ignored you, just been extremely busy. Since the issue is not congestion on our network, I will need traceroutes to the destinations that you're having problems with.

Thanks.

Will send some trace RT tonight. Ya I am from Kenilworth so very close to you.
How long has this been happening to you? is it also terrible during the night and ok during the day.

Just tested a web africa account and get 18ping on all three tests, my vox account was 68, 42 and 76. (friday 02 13:10)

Hopefully someone will give us some answers soon, just dont want another afrihost again where weeks turned into months.

No one can make me look bad except myself.

Like I said in my response, as soon as I hear back with real feedback, I'll provide details. =) I can't do more than that.

The network team has already begun looking into this, as soon as she has completed the routines, I'm sure she will find the problem and fix it if its in our control.

cool, didn't think you were ignoring me(understand you busy) - just wanted to see if other people are also experiencing the same problems. I will send you tracert now PM.

thanks for the help

which servers? mweb CINX is ****ed and 8/12 nodes are hosted there for Valve. Block the IP range and just play JHB works wonders

Both JHB and CT servers were stuffed last night on VOX.
Afrihost pings were around 50ms but they have stupid packet loss at the moment.

server notices show load maxed out last night. Did you have a net_graph open monitoring server var and sv? If not please do so next time and take screenshots.

That Tustin DC is on the East Coast in the States, hence the latency there. We see the same on our network (minus the star :p ) but that data has to route from SA>UK>USA East Coast>USA West Coast, so it's pretty normal. There are European Diablo servers though...

Realized after I submitted my reply and updated my post accordingly :) 200-220 to UK still is very good. I don't see a problem with that.

100%. Also depends on where in SA you are and where in Europe that server is, and whether the game server's ISP/data centre has interconnects with the major European traffic DCs. If it has to announce and then route you'll add some latency there. Heck, for some European service 300ms may be normal, and it's out of the hands of any ISP this side of the pond to control that. Although if you have international POPs you can take some control over it, and likewise end up being responsible for congestion on the POP side itself...

Yeh I always have net_graph open.
Var was around 8 with sky high ping.
